Re: New to Tenor Guitar (jazz)

Hi Dave, you find will it hard to find a better tenor guitar player than John and he has quite a few youtube videos to watch but, there are also many more very talented players to be found on...
  2. Re: How do you setup a tenor guitar CGDA vs a standard six string

It would depend if the guitars nut is slotted for CGDA as you may need file the nut or replacing the nut with bone if yours is plastic.
There are ways to cut the slots but without accurate files,...

    Re: Blueridge Tenor CGDA Strings?

In my own opinion, I think the Blueridge is better suited to GDAE, it is possible to tune CGDA as lots of folk do just that but, the A will always be very tight!
The big body works well with the...

    Re: Fletcher tenor guitars?

I bough this amazing little instrument a few years ago now and I have since sold it on.
It cost about half the cost of a new Fletcher but is a 20” scale (also available in 21”)
    I started off with...

    Re: BR-40T vs BR-70T?

Yes, a bit tight to get my hand in but quite possible, I cut a half round rasp in half and glued a bit of wood on the flat side to make it more comfortable to work with.
    Just scalloped the bracing...

    Re: BR-40T vs BR-70T?

Dave, I could not agree more, the blueridge is a lovely instrument but they seem to be slightly overbuilt probably to make sure they last through the guarantee.
I first adjusted the bracing on my...

    Re: BR-40T vs BR-70T?

Yes indeed there are lots of very emotive opinions around, I try to steer away from such discussions about tone wood, laminate v solid and such like.
I am quite happy to let folk decide or believe...

    Re: Fletcher tenor guitars?

Only my personal opinion but I think a 23” inch scale is more suitable for GDAE and 21” scale is just perfect for CGDA.

    Re: Fletcher tenor guitars?

You could try googling the guitars and add Mandolin cafe to the search (you will get much better results than using the forum search engine )
I seem to remember the short scale uses heavy strings...

    Re: Curious about tunings

Basic chord shapes in 5ths on a tenor guitar must be about as easy as you can get on any instrument and work fine for rhythm as does CGDA.
However in my opinion, if you want a strumming instrument,...

    Re: Baritone Ukulele in GDAE

CGDA on a 20” baritone ukulele is not as easy as GDAE to get it sounding good but in theory C 38w G 28w D 30p A.20p will give around 55lb of tension.
I set up my own 20” scale uke in GDAE with...

Lots of choice to buy new nowadays, even a few 21” scales, wide neck, thin neck, cheap and expensive all available.

Re: Harley Benton Tenor - GDAE?

Yes you can do that without any danger to the guitar but long term you would be better off doing, or having, a set up done to correct the action.
The thicker gauge strings will most likely sit a...

    Re: 8 string tenor guitar

I dont see any Tenor guitar police so I guess he can call it whatever he wants, if it is tuned in 5ths then personally I would call it a guitar bodied octave mandolin.

    Re: Octave mandolin tuning

Dave, you might find that using a string tension calculator very helpful.
You are looking for around 75-85 total pull or around 20lb per string, for the majority of tenor guitars this will offer a...
