Do a search in this section for the K&K Twin Spot. Based on what I read and heard here, I bought one for my F5. I think it will excell on amy instrument (my banjo player has a K&K too). I spent many...
I've been using the m200 for a couple years now. A music store I frequented custom ordered them at the time. Now they are a standard offer. I just keep coming back to it, on both my Weber A and my...
I understand all the classified rules except for the rule :
"Trades in either direction involving non-mandolin family products are not allowed. This includes guitars, violins, banjos, and other...
I have to put in a good word for the Long Hollow braided softy too. Great strap-Great price! I play over the right shoulder and these have enough nap to them that it never moves.
"The Road to Gila Bend" by Los Lobos.
I put a Weber tailpiece on a cheap Johnson A about 5 years ago. I remember that it did improve the sustain and the tone. I don't recall the details exactly. That was a while, and two mandolins ago. ...
So Hans, do you build your A's to the same dimensions as your F's, with the exception of the scroll? I'm fascinated in the art of building.
I think you're right. As I said...from memory. The memory is gettin worse all the time.
Everyone is right about the scroll on an F, it's beautiful but pricey. It's tough to do. As far as the difference in sound, the debate rages constantly. Some builder claim the scroll makes no...
This is a fascinating idea! I may just have to try it.
BTW...I second...or third or fourth the D'Addario J74 recommendation. They seem to be nearly everyones default starting string. You may find some you like better eventually, but they never sound bad.
Sorry for the delay...I forgot to subscribe to this thread.
The intonation was just fine with the nut shimmed. I only shimmed it a tiny bit...like the thickness of a peel-off address label. That...
I just put a K&K Twin Spot on my Pomeroy and took it out for the first time on Friday. Still needs a little tweaking, but I'm REALLY impressed. Sounds so much more natural than any other pickup I've...
That's exactly how I've done it for the last 5 years. No problems.
I'll tell you this, as a transplanted guitar player of 20+ years...the mandolin is like a microcosm of the guitar. All the little things that you learned make a difference in the tone of your guitars...
"I do not own an expensive mandolin. My Best instrument is a Glen A model that Allen made for me."
Greg,
All true! But don't be quite so modest about your Glenn. A friend in town ordered an F...
Check out Greg Boyd's website. He's got a lot of great sounding clips of most of his mandolins. It's just nice to compare them on nice speakers.
The ones that really perked my ears (for some...
Hey everyone. Just a heads up for anyone in Central PA. The recently renovated and reopened State Theater in State College, PA (home of Penn State University) has some great bluegrass coming. Here's...
