Lovely stuff. Wish I could play like this.
Don, what are you running your signal through. Is it just the amp? (what amp is...
Dont drop it!
Yes, and lengthen the scale to 15" and it would be, for me, pointless to try to resist buying one.
:)

I have realised that almost all my effects are actually boost pedals in one way or another...

If you know about John Jorgenson, this will not surprise you.
But this is a really wonderful 15 minute video that includes discussion about Jethro Burns from Sam Bush and Ricky Skaggs.

Hi Doc,
The El Rey has an electromagnetic pickup in it, so it is meant to be played through a 'guitar' amplifier, rather than directly through a PA or 'acoustic' amplifier. People hereabouts have...
You won't need distortion, a bit of overdrive will create as dirty a sound and be a bit more versatile with 8 strings.
It's fun.
But I prefer to use an 8 string in place of a 12-string guitar...
Hello folks,
I bought a cheap Mooer octave pedal last summer because I needed something for when my guitarist and I covered Wish You Were Here. The low octave helped flesh things out while he...
Howdy all,
Maybe I should have called this 'chips v tubes'.
In my search for affordable, light, good sounding emando amplification I have begun to focus on emulation.
BluGuitar Amp1,...
I meant that 12's should work for you, not that you should use phosphor bronze. :)

I have a Hathway octave mandolin with a 19" scale. I tune it GDAE, an octave lower than a mando. D'Addario make an octave mandolin set with 12's as the top e. Works for me.

I enjoyed this.

My usual 'mandola' is actually an Arrow G5 hollow body electric 5 string mandolin with a 15" scale length. It solves a lot of stretching/fingering issues.
My 'real' mandola is a Weber Alder #2,...

I don't have the mandola tab, no. I do have the guitar tab though. I was thinking about putting it in TEF and then trying to convert it from guitar to mandola.
I caught the A part by repeated...
tmsweeney is right about sharing a lot of sonic space with the guitar.
I've been playing along to Eric Skye's "Kathryn by the Delaware" on the mandola. I can match the pitch of his guitar part on...
Slap a capo on the octave mandolin at the fifth fret and have a go!
The scale will be a bit shorter than the usual 16" or 17" but the fingering will be the same.

How about:
6) 100% more control over your tone. No reliance upon sound engineers who may or may not know what a mandolin is supposed to sound like.
7) Cool chord inversions available if you use a...
I was thinking of it not for sounding acoustic, I have enough acoustic mandolin family instruments that it's not necessary in that capacity. I was thinking of adding a bit of reverb (outboard of the...
These are both about guitars, but you get the idea.
Tuning is relative because it has been equalised in western music. (Thank Bach for that.)
Trust your ears, but agree about these things with...
The e string issue is endemic. It cannot be avoided.
Nothing will make an electric mandolin have the same output as an electric guitar. Electric mandolins have shorter scale lengths, and...
No one has brought up the Brazilian 'guitarra baiana' yet.
