    Re: Bolt on necks?

Can you quantify that? I'm not buying it. No offense intended, but a lot of folks make statements one way or another without real data to back it up other than perception.

    Re: Opinions on "The"

Great thread. I think someone should start a mando company with the words "The Gibbon" instead....and I'm not monkeying around.

Re: Its not black and blonde...

I'm liking the way the neck and the back and sides seem to be all melted into each other. That's pretty difficult to achieve, especially with a wood like quilted maple. Dang nice job...

Too bad that back isn't book matched. It would have been even more stunning. Quicksilver (aka Mercury)...nice reference.

    Re: Mandolins in progress

Safe-T Planers scare the crud out of me. I have one, and it sits in the box. I had too many near misses with it, and it tended to grab the wood rather than cutting cleanly through it. Now a...

    Re: Why hide glue?

It really is ignorance that some folks think that hide glue or fish glue (which I am using more and more these days) is a poor glue for "woodworking". It would be correct if you were making outdoor...

Nice looking guitar and wood John. I happen to love Cherry too...and it really makes a great looking guitar or mandolin neck.

    Very pretty instrument.
  14. Re: Need resaw in arizona/none mandolin content

Contact the Arizona luthier's group. I forget what they're called though. I know of a member who lives in the Tucson area that has a decent bandsaw.

    Re: Anyone building with Lutz?

Lutz can be some terrific wood for guitars, but I'm still waiting for Shane to send me my Master grade sets. One of these days, I'll get them ordered too... nice to see ya here Shane.

    Re: Mandolins in progress

Love that mando! Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle is a really cool wood for sure. I stumbled on to some here in the states a number of years ago, enough for a few guitar back and side sets. The dark spots...

Nice article too, and some great stuff about Lynn Dudenbostal as well. I really enjoy the FBJ. It has some great writing, and excellent photography. It's a really well done magazine.
