    Re: Unsigned Loar on Reveb

That post from Bill Halsey with the shot of the BM varnish can reminded me that I have the label from one of his cans on my old mandolin case!
  4. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

I think I need to go paint the house!
(I don’t care if it’s sided, if I don’t do something soon the strain on my brain will make it a pain to explain)
  5. Re: Question about Vega Fairbanks Mandolin Banjo

Just had a return message from my friend, he concurred with the “See Mr. Smakula” opinion.
And he’s the most informed guy on that kind of thing I know so..
  6. Re: Question about Vega Fairbanks Mandolin Banjo

    Mr. Peabody,
I’m going to send this to a Vega Fairbanks banjo friend, he is very wise in many things (most) Vega. Maybe he will chime in, I know he is in contact with Mr. Smackula so my bet between...

Re: Flatiron A-5 Artist, 1,500 should I get it?

    Re: Grandfathers Gibson A3 Mandolin

Katie, that is wonderful for you to have inherited such a nice instrument! Family history is an even bigger plus. Sorry I can’t help with a luthier but, they are out there. And I agree, sending it to...
  11. Re: Is this Gibson A-5 model familiar to anyone?

“Gumby” is the kind version of what these poor creatures were called maybe it was only in Kalamazoo that they had some of the less “endearing” names but, they did exist.
  12. Re: Looking for some insight into microtonal mandolin

For me it’s more “tooth jarring” notes like that work very differently on fretless instruments the ability to “slur” is part of the design. This strikes me as simply gimmicky. If you really want that...

Re: What do you keep your picks and stuff in?

I have an old hunting case pocket watch case that I use onstage and that stores in the case pocket along with the normal tons of useless crap that seems to grow in there when I least expect it!

  22. Re: Keeping an A Mandolin in place with rug underlayment

I’d be leery of the rubber liner stuff, it might cause issues with finishes. Well, some finishes. I will never forget a customer bringing in his guitar in with big areas of finish on the bottom, part...
