    Re: Straps for A style

I ordered one from this company. Nicely made, inexpensive, works well, and if you should be able to find a color and pattern you like.

    Re: Newb's first day

    A. 63 isn't so terribly awfully old: you can do this. You're not the first to start in their sixties.

    B. Blisters are bad. You sound like you had big fun getting them, but now you need to lay off...

Re: New Eastman won't stay in tune - bad pegs?

If you are used to synthetic violin strings and nylon guitar strings you'll notice that the steel mandolin strings react quickly and dramatically to smallish changes in temperature.

    Re: Case for L&H?

Sorry, I was thinking of the fiberglass Bobelock. I don't see that Eastman is offering cases any longer. Am I wrong?

What on the A doesn't fit?

If it’s a symmetric, long-scale A and the only problem is the length of the scroll, it could be my lucky day.

    Re: Case for L&H?

Thanks, gentlemen. One of my others came in a Calton. It's gorgeous and solid, but I'm hoping to find something a little lighter, both in weight and the pocketbook. Bobelock's fiberglass cases look...

    Case for L&H?

I have a Lyon & Healy Style B, long scale. It came with its original case, which is extremely cool but not at all protective—no insulation, no padding. I would love to find a contemporary, good...

  10. Re: What is the difference between a trill and a hammer-on?

Bren, a trill is indeed between neighboring notes. If the interval is wider it is referred to as fingered tremolo, at least on bowed string instruments. It's frequently used in symphonic music to...
  11. Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"

Awww, Steve Goodman. He should have been able to hang around Planet Earth a whole lot longer. Go, Cubs, Go.

Some fine mandolin-playing on that cut too.

Re: Lyon & Healy mandolin scales

UPS can be difficult, to put it politely. I was the librarian for an orchestra for several years, which involved shipping a lot of music to and from rental companies. Pieces that were rental-only and...

Re: Lyon & Healy mandolin scales

My B has a compensated bridge that may well be original. It's strung with TI mittels, I regularly play way up the neck, and the intonation is good. It's not perfect—no fretted instrument is or can...

Sheila, I'm glad your grandson is healing well. That sounds like a potentially catastrophic injury. And, congratulations on the kid-proof mandolin. I hope one to more of them take it up.

Honkety, put an ad in the classifieds that you're looking for a tailpiece cover. Somebody around here has one or more from instruments that couldn't be salvaged. When does it arrive???

  25. Re: Ellis A5 special deluxe - Brentrup M23V - Gibson F2

    All three are great mandolins.

I'd say they can't be ranked or judged; it's a matter of personal preference and not quality. If you're not planning on selling all three, can you wait until the...
