  1. Re: Getting in touch with Ben Wilcox of BRW

Just an FYI for those who are wondering about Ben Wilcox...I had a nice conversation with him and he said that he intentionally let the website expire because he wanted to go in a different direction...

    Re: Introducing the Sorensen VX

I noticed that the tuner posts are offset a bit, making the bass side (G and D) strings longer length? Do you find that it makes the bass notes more responsive and give it more clarity?

I consider myself to be blessed to be able to have music as a career and my hobby. I teach piano/violin 6 days a week, on most days around 6 hours. After dinner, I pick up my mandolin and play for at...

    Re: Live in Indiana?

Thanks Zeek! Let me know if you guys decide to put something together. I want to get better at jamming, but haven't found people to jam with on a regular basis. I'm excited to join a group!

Re: Punch Brothers - Webcast TONIGHT!

Does anyone remember the interview where Witcher "says the band just appreciates the versatility of acoustic instruments, and we're not interested in pounding out the rhythm on a drumset. Drums are...
  13. Re: Who are builders who, consistently, build clean F5s?

I'll throw in Ben Wilcox's work (BRW). I traded in my Collings MF5 for one of his because his had a better tone. Check out the gallery on his website. His recent work is immaculate.

    Re: New Punch Brothers Album

I'm not sure... But I know that he borrowed an F4 and a Gilchrist mandocello for the album from the Carters from what Christie told me, but whether that made it into the final production I guess...

Re: Chris Thile: Sonata in Gmin (Bach)

Thanks for posting this. It's great to hear a mandolinist play with such nuanced phrasing and tone colors.

Re: Post A Picture Of Yourself

    Marty,

I secretly gave him the name in hopes that one day it can be an excuse to get an actual Ellis F5 ..."Hey Honey, wouldn't it be cool to buy our son a mando that has his name on it?"

  23. Re: Found the greatest tuner ever--and it's cheap

I have this app for Android... And I agree it's one of the most useful apps any musician could have. I love the fact that it has a chord analyzer and how you can tune multiple notes at a time!
