Preamp is a MUST! My pickup sounds very bad without my eq preamps I use. Plus if your running through an amp as well I'd look at upgrading that as well.

I agree they are worth it. But I have one that I've worn down so much, I did replace it. Still cool with it. Primetone picks are nice and really close for the price.
