    Re: Memorizing a song

And there in lyes tue crux of my issue. I just haven’t been able to remember the tunes, playing or humming. I will need to really drill them into my head somehow.

    Re: Name that wood

When I picked it up my first guess was ash but it is so heavy I second guessed myself and wondered about white oak. Tele would be cool but an electric mando might be cooler!

    Re: Mic for onboard use

How hard is it on your instrument finish? Look like people mount it with putty or double-sided tape. Is there an internal option like the K&K pure? I really like the K&K in my 000 but haven't tried...

Re: Buying without being able to play

Hogo, in the builder's section, is quite respected and is over in the EU.

That said there are no Mandolins in my area other than a mom and pop who had a The Loar which I got to try and was not...

Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

Love the natural look of the Brazillian! Like natural untreated Cherry, it looks its best with natural age, but I'm probably the odd guy out on this thought process.

Re: Always use a strap? Even when seated?

196198Leather is fun. I made a round braid with some leather, very soft and flexible. I wanted one just in case. I do use it now and then but mostly go strapless.

    Re: Right arm placement

Well, I have been paying more attention to my right arm position, not trying to change it just being more aware of where it is when I play and it seems to be very dependent on body position. Certain...

Re: Flatwounds on an Eastman MD315

TI here as well on my Oldwave A, bit expensive but after looking at the tension I opted for the Start strings which were still less tension than what came on it. It is less tension than either j74...
  15. Re: Looking to Commission Carbon Fiber Mando (1 1/4" nut)

I would ask on the builder section if anyone is interested. There may be a couple experimenting with CF. I can think of one for sure but no production yet and I don’t think it is any less expensive...

    Re: Right arm placement

I can honestly say how the pick strikes the string depends on how I angle my grip sometimes flat sometimes at a very slight angle. Now I wonder which I do more of.
  17. Re: Looking at your hands while playing -- opinions?

I was told that if I learned without looking at the strings then when I couldn’t look at the strings it would never be a problem. So I generally don’t look at the strings.

If I put a strap on this is similar to what I do.
  20. Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

So @jdchapman how's the search going? I obviously am taken with Mandolas. My first build was a five-course, no I don't remember how I tuned it, but it was incredible sounding. Woodier deeper than a...

You have done gone and done it for sure. My first Inexpensive acoustic was nothing more than a fine-sounding gateway drug to a fabulous Martin. Good luck but start saving now because it will happen!

    Re: cheap peg winder

I rarely get an entire wrap around my post so I just never understood a pegwinder. How many times are you all wrapping the strings around the post?
