Re: NMD Gibson A-1 from 1912!

It sounds fantastic! There’s a great balance across all the courses; no excessive bassiness (that can plague these old Gibsons) on this one! It’s got a great tone to it, sometime soon when I record a...

  6. Re: NMD 1935 Martin A-Style (and a 'lighbulb moment'!)

Yes, Steve, I feel the same way! I feel great about it!! And yeah, I wish I'd found Mando before guitar, it's very neat so far, and scales make much more sense to me on one than they did on guitar....
  7. Re: NMD 1935 Martin A-Style (and a 'lighbulb moment'!)

i looked at The Collings', and while I appreciate the craftmanship of them, I do prefer the older, mellower, oval-hole tone, compared to the more.. modern voicing of the Collings and others.
  8. Re: NMD 1935 Martin A-Style (and a 'lighbulb moment'!)

Yes, Allen, all the reasons you listed are why I got mine! As I do not plan to play any BG, I think mine will suit me just fine! Condition is fantastic, now if I just could find a case for it, lol!...

    Re: Mandolin recommendations?

You couldn't do wrong with a vintage Martin A-Style! Made from the late teens to around 1975 or so, they're oval hole, solid spruce top, mahogany B/S, easy playing, sweet sounding machines! They go...

  14. Re: Help identifying the Gibson Mando in this YouTube performance

Brady is my personal guitar hero, I've spent hours learning Arthur McBride, Mary And The Soldier, etc, and while I can get through them in his style, they sound like doo-doo compared to his versions;...

  16. Re: Help identifying the Gibson Mando in this YouTube performance

Thanks for the reply! I see a lot of them on Reverb and the Bay for around $1400-1800, is that a good price or should I look for ones around $1200, if i can find them?
  17. Help identifying the Gibson Mando in this YouTube performance

Hey all, first post, happy to be here! I've played guitar for 10 years, Bouzouki for 4 months, and have decided I ought to add a Mando to that collection. As I'm big into Irish Trad music, I have a...
