    Re: Surgery for arthritis...

My right shoulder was replaced on February 28. Today, I picked up my mandolin (Phoebe) for the first time since surgery. It's the first time I have played any of my instruments since my surgery date.

    Hello again!

It's so nice to be back. I have a nice shiny new right shoulder and I'm finally reintroducing myself to my instruments. Phoebe was first, tonight. I felt some muscles I haven't used for a while!

    Re: Checking in--I didn't disappear

I've had surgery on both thumbs (once each, at the joint where they join the wrist), and several shoulder surgeries on both sides. Doctors are miracle workers. Just be sure, if you ever have a hand...

    Checking in--I didn't disappear

I've missed all of you people! At the end of the month, I'm getting a new shoulder. Once I've recovered from that project I hope to resume spending time with my instruments--and my instrument-forum...

    Re: Eastman MDO305 Octave

I call mine Charlotte and I enjoy playing her. And I suspect if I ever decided I would consider getting rid of her, that she would be easy to sell.
  8. Re: From Tablature to Standard Music notation OH My

Great job, Keith! Once one sees the system to it, or the logic behind it, I think it really clicks. My first instrument was violin and once I started goofing around with fretted strings it occurred...

    Re: Guitar feels huge ...

I must be some kind of whiz, then--I haven't had my guitar for a year yet and I'm already trying to play mandolin chord shapes on it! ;)

    Re: Breaking into Mandola...by mandolin?

It sounds as if your mandola engages you enough that you will enjoy spending time with her, Sue. I suspect your fluency will improve quickly. Enjoy!

Re: Mandolin sound - what is bloom?

I have never watched that Teletubbies introduction (I'm not known as the TV grandmother). That sun is creepy. And my grandchildren call me Lala. So I think it's probably a good thing that I hadn't...

    Re: Laser Cleaning Stained Mandolins

Hey! Do you have my home "bugged"? Because this comment is quite reminiscent of a frequent exchange between my husband and me.

I'm committing an unearned hijacking here: For those of you with Netflix, a film is on that, according to RadioTimes.com, "... tells the true story of a 1909 expedition taken by Danish explorer Ejnar...

    Re: Chord/melody playing - a zoom lesson

Just yesterday I was playing (I never call it practicing because that sounds like work) and I realized this ability is a big ol' hole in my skillset. I'm enrolled and anticipating! Thank you!
  19. Found: Songbooks good for beginner/early intermediate players

I have found a series of songbooks that I really enjoy, so I wanted to share in case anybody here might also like 'em.

It's a Hal Leonard series called "Strum Together." The volume I have in hand...
