Re: Suggestions for a wedding march

I composed one once. Never used it, so I changed the name. But the tune remains. It's now called "Gone But Not Forgot." The original name was unoriginal: "Wedding March." I think I also called in...

    Re: Mandolin Gender

Mine's an it. It's little, and its a Gibson Junior A, so its named Junior.
  4. Re: Bringing a Mandolin on a long trip

When I ship before I fly, it isn't mainly for safety or economy. It's because I don't want one more thing to lug or worry about or remember.

But there are plenty of horror stories about airlines...
  5. Re: Tell me of your love affair with an A style...

Well, Caberguy? Have you gotten over your F infatuation? Or does your heart still want what your heart wants?
  6. Re: Tell me of your love affair with an A style...

Actually, I got rid of my A5 because it was too fancy. Binding? Yuck! Replaced it with a modest snakehead Junior A, and it's just right for me — my forever mando. Check it out below and tell me it...
  7. Re: AI and music: Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi

On beyond simple comping, entire sections, large and small, are simply copied and pasted through the song. The chorus is recorded once and dropped in six more times. The hook is copied and dropped in...
  8. Re: Bringing a Mandolin on a long trip

I'd ship the Big Muddy. Easy, safe, and not ridiculously expensive Ω¸— certainly a lot cheaper than buying yet another mandolin.

If FedEx and UPS are too expensive, you can take it to a bus line...
  9. Re: What breaks or solos have you learned note for note?

That's a different question. The ones we've learned note for note aren't necessarily popular tunes. Most folks who don't play mandolin would name "Maggie May."
  10. Re: What breaks or solos have you learned note for note?

The opening repeat phrase of "Vincent Black Lightning 1952."
  11. Re: AI and music: Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi

Since the current pop crop is twice as bad as disco, it doesn't take a math degree to understand that disco can't be worse than half bad.

Not convinced? Put on some Harry Styles and call me back.

    Re: Mando or banjo

But — tenor banjo in a bluegrass band? Haven't seen that around here. I wonder.

    =O.

    ITM?

Hm. Really? In bluegrass bands I've heard, most of the players take turns on rhythm and lead. I go listen some more.

    Re: Mando or banjo

Yeahbut. How often do we see tenor banjos in bluegrass bands?

Meanwhile, nice video. Now I know. Thanks!
  16. Re: AI and music: Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi

    That, too!
  17. Re: AI and music: Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi

Jim, like most of the folks here, I'm with you all the way. I'm also a great admirer of the Swannanoa gathering and would love having the scratch it would take to come down and take part. Likewise,...

    Re: Mando or banjo

Well, after all, this is — ahem — a mandolin forum.

Okay, got that out of the way. Now:

    - Both are bluegrass instruments, but banjo isn't big in Irish music. (Bouzouki has the opposite problem:...

    Re: Yet Another CF Mandolin?

Yup. I'm not shopping for a mandolin now, but I'd never want one that needs a battery. When I'm playing amplified, I like to just plug and play.
  20. Re: I know this is a subjective question but rank your top player

I'm a blues guy first, so the mando guy I always turn to first is Rich DelGrosso. He plays what I hear in my head.

After him, Grisman, because any friend of Jerry . . . . Plus, Dave can do...
  21. Re: Big ol' baby looking for reassurance

I'd probably trust Guitar Center with setting up a guitar. But mandolin is trickier and in less demand, so there's a chance your Guit Center tech will be winging it.

    If there's a local luthier...

Technically this constitutes an ad so has been removed.
  23. Re: I miss the Classified Guitar posts....

Can't see why. There must be something going on. Anyhow, I don't mind the change. It makes sense. I come here to look at mandolins. It's the best. There are plenty of other places to look at guitars.
  24. Re: I miss the Classified Guitar posts....

Eh. I'd just browse Other and call it good.

    Re: Advice on mandolin Upgrade

Howard has a real good reputation, and his mandolins are considered as good as more expensive brands.
