Read the thread again. They argued with that too.
Everyone was arguing that it wasn't a 1988 until I posted pics. Did you miss that part?
I would still think an instrument built in the era where he was building alone would demand a bit higher premium than one he build as part of a team.

Just my opinion. Even...
I have no idea what the S means. I'm not sure why they would find the need to indicate a solid top on a model that comes standard with a solid top.
Saga says its from 1988, until someone can...
So no one here can disprove that this is indeed from 1988 as Saga stated?
Any more expert opinions?
Sure, S meant solid top on the low end models but the KM-1000 and up always had solid tops and it wouldn't be necessary to indicate that.
Handwritten label. I can't get a clear answer from anyone as to what the S would indicate on the label.

I'm not seeing that option. Is that only on the desktop version?
I have no clue how to post pics here but I can email you some.
I appreciate your clarification. Perhaps there is no way to prove to you beyond a shadow of a doubt.
1. I don't if your quote from Saga includes all mandolins. Perhaps the master models are easier...
Ah okay. Thanks.
I must be missing something

Here you will find the original quote from Scott.
Check out dwiegardt's reply and dropbox. Zimmerman's quote is on that as well. Plus it lists some known KM-1500 models from that era.
If you have other information, please share.
Exactly which part specifically disputing?
These are facts.
Yes, Sumi built all the KM-1000, KM-1500, and Dawg models by himself from 1987 to 1992. Scott Zimmerman lived in Japan and visited...
