Re: New Player - Kentucky KM-150 vs KM-250?

Congrats on the new Kentucky! I went with the KM-150, and it seems like a pretty decent instrument-certainly all I'll need for quite some time.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

A change of pace can be good for your playing too!
  3. Re: Mandolin for Dummies/Mandolin Exercises for Dummies

Good thread for those of us who are just starting out. In learning guitar I have utilized books much more than online resources, for some reason I just connect with books, even more than videos.

Action seems pretty good, nice and low. It isn't hard to keep the strings pressed securely against the frets.

    Re: Nother newbie

Sounds like you'll be doing some setup work. I would contact Rob Meldrum (in fact, I did earlier this week) and get his mandolin setup e-book (free). I read through it yesterday. It would probably...

    NMD, But there's a problem

The Kentucky KM-150 I had on order arrived today, but I have a problem. My violin playing daughter won't let go of it!

Re: Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

Interesting advice, particularly concerning picks and how to hold them. Sounds like I may want to try some different ones than the ones I use for guitar.

Re: Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

It will probably have to be online since I don't know of anyone in my area who teaches it. Thanks for the list of names to look up.

Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

I've been playing guitar almost every day for the past 3 years. No lessons, and very little use of online instruction, mostly I have just used books. In the beginning my focus was on learning to...
