If it bothers you so much, then just don’t click on the thread. Problem solved. We are just discussing a new and interesting finish that we are curious about, in a discussion forum.
I did contact them to check the serial, and it likely falls under the Truetone cutoff. The rep just copied and pasted the official Truetone release. I asked them what was in it because I noticed that...
Does Eastman claim that Trutone is catalyzed? I don’t recall reading that.
Beautiful mandolin OP! Are the neck widths similar on Eastman and Kentucky mandolins?
I hope you are right. I only have one instrument to go off of but my finish looks more like my Alvarez Masterworks acoustic with a poly coffin around it than it does my Taylor 410. It looks thick....
My concern is thickness. I put acetone on a q-tip and wiped the overspray inside one of the f-holes(which initially led me to think it was nitro) and it exposed a good cross section of the finish and...
Beautiful work!
Where do you get pins?
Interesting. I thought those were just for added strength. I don’t see how they could hold up a pickguard by themselves.
I ordered an abbreviated pickguard from Cumberland for my gold top Eastman. Looks like it’s just the guard, no hardware. Can anyone steer me towards a good permanent mountain bracket? I know very...
Do you know anything about their new Trutone finish?
Do you have his current contact info? I emailed the only address that I could find, awhile back and never received a response.
I am in this group. I purchased my instrument under the spec list that stated nitrocellulose and noticing the plastic like appearance of my mandolin, contacted Eastman and surprise, it is poly. I...
That why tort pickguards are so dang expensive? I think poly has it’s virtues if done well, like on my 95 Taylor 410. However when laid on thick, I believe it hurts tone severely.
What bridges are you trying out? Curious about bone bridges.
Anybody own or played a newer Eastman mandolin? Curious about opinions on this finish. Mainly thickness vs nitrocellulose finished.
Thank you so much Johnny. I don’t know who I am on a mandolin yet to be honest. I like bluegrass mandolin and I like Irish fiddle tunes too. Figuring where to start is daunting.
-how to play simple rhythm and chop chords. Preferably in the key of G.
I know that this is blasphemy to many of you but I wouldn’t mind to see my Eastman gold top with finish cracks all over the top. I won’t purposefully do anything to cause it, but being a vintage...
Newb question. Can mahogany back mandolins make good bluegrass instruments? I’ve read a bit that they really don’t work well. I’m assuming it’s a volume issue.
Charlie are you able to post a photo of it? I’m curious.
I would have to agree.
Do mandolins with Brazilian rosewood backs exist in the world? I would love to hear how one of those sounds.

This post, in it’s entirety, would be a dream vacation for me.
Would it be worth considering different tone woods rather than spruce/maple?
