My main musical influence for many years! I've lived in Boulder since 1987 when Hot Rize was in their prime, and Tim was experimenting with solo projects at small venues in town. Before Rockygrass...

thanks for all this great Givens info!

Scott, that was my F you played at Folk Alliance some years ago, a great memory for me, as well. Maybe all mandolins sound better in a stairwell at whatever...

    Cherokee Lady - Bobby Osborne

Here's my stab at Cherokee Lady by the great Bobby Osborne. It's twice through - the melody, which has some variation, then a second pass, which seems worked out and is way fun to play. Pardon the...

Re: Gigs Cancelled - Health and Safety

Looks like a fairly major camp I was set to teach at next month is going to cancel. Pretty big financial hit for me, but I can certainly keep it in perspective with how many people's lives are in...

There can never be enough said about Jethro, but your coverage does the man and his music justice. Well done!
  14. Any clues about this British-made mandolin?

This was brought in by a student of mine, recently given to her by her mother, who still lives in England. Mom was apparently quite the folkie back in the 60s and 70s, rubbing shoulders with the...

Haven't heard the new album besides the videos, but some of the first non-bluegrass mandolin I dug was his playing, particularly Billy the Kid and Hey Porter, both from Into the Purple Valley. He's...
