    Re: Shure sm57

As mentioned there are numerous threads on this, all worth the read. At some point, each of us go down this rabbit hole and find our spot on the chessboard. Trick is to not lose your head! :)

    Re: Trigger Finger (s)

July 2020 I snapped the first knuckle tendon of my left ring finger, Mallet Finger.

Doc said I'd heal, but I asked for an X-ray and referral to a specialist.

About 2 months in a splint and...

Re: Is It Possible to Fake It?

Cafe Member Duuuude once took me to a Swing Jam just as it got going. The host called Misty—a song not known to me—and off we went. Started a solo using basic pentatonic moves and very soon realized...

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

Same here, bought quite the 'player' of an instrument with every scratch and ding pre-loaded for the road. That Weber has served me well for almost 20-years now, while the more recently acquired...
  5. Re: Copying from a PDF to Word - or Editing a PDF

Sherry, I replied to your PM so go ahead and send over the PDF to me via email. I'll convert and we can all see what happens.

Edit: So, Jim above has discovered the core issue. PDF - as a document...
  6. Re: Copying from a PDF to Word - or Editing a PDF

This is my balliwick! Since you have Acrobat Pro, take a look at the Export To function under the File menu. Acrobat does a great job of exporting to PowerPoint and a decent job exporting to Word.

Re: ? about Dunlop Primetone picks...

I do wish Dunlop had assigned a bit more distinction to each of the sizes/shapes/materials because there is a a lot of diversity inside the 'Primetone' tent. On finding a perffered style, I bought a...
  8. Re: Mandolin player crossing over to guitar

I am 100% percent with Niles on this subject, that our 'mind's ear' should be the guide, or rather the glue that brings all the instruments together under one roof. I'll play mandolin, piano, guitar...

Re: How Many Like Blonde Mandos??

Yes, I do like them! Have had this Collings MF Honey Amber for a bit more than a year, and just love the way it looks, and sounds, and plays.

    Re: Seasonal Sight Reading Challenge

Reminds of the old joke: How does one play the timpani? Count the rests.

    Re: hand held recorder

The Tascam DP-006 sits in a nice sweet spot between the small portables and the larger multi-tracks. The mics are great, and you can export to WAV (for a DAW) or mix and finish in the box. Has a...

Re: Live from Here is no more

The Live from Here house band has to be one of the best line-ups ever, and the shows when they had Haas, Jarosz, and O'Donovan were always my favorites.

Re: Why do people do this?

Way too much: "Mojo", "has seen a lot of love", "played in", "so much history", "if it could talk, it sure would have some stories!"

OTOH: "Strings broken, not sure if it can be fixed", "Found...

Re: You never know who plays mando....

Good to know the mandolin exists within The First Degree. Guess that makes all of us 2nd Degree Bacons, right?

    Re: Shout out to Collings

Whaddya know? It does have a radius, but nowhere near as curved as the Weber, and so assumed it was flat. Not so! Thanks for the heads up.

    Re: Shout out to Collings

I joined the Collings club a few months back and could not be happier. Had some concerns about the neck profile, and flat fingerboard. Neither has been an issue, and it has become the daily player...

    Re: Should I be insulted?

No reason to be insulted just because she/he chooses to be elsewhere during mandolin time. In this household, 2/3 dogs could not care less while Wiley-dog maintains serious opinions about instruments...

Re: Using a DI and Preamp

I keep a Radial ProDI in the gig bag as a passive DI just-in-case. It has enough resistance to work with a piezo p/u to send a useful signal FOH.

Re: Sold my Collings and got a Pava

We are all different in size and shape, so how could there be an ideal neck profile? I recently acquired a Collings MF and even through I'd played many before, knew the shape felt good, there was the...
  22. Re: Emando players: What do you want in an amp?

LoudBox Mini works for me! As said, it is lightweight, has good tone, multiple inputs/types, and loud enough for most any gig purpose. EM200 goes into a small pedalboard and then into the 1/4" input...
  23. Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

Cb... song was actually in B major.

I do want to say that the songwriter is very talented and most any of us would likely be happy backing him up. He's going to do well in Nashville, I hope.
  24. Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

Gig Report: Played a Weber Bitterroot with a Radius p/u into a DI for FOH mix, no amp no monitor. Venue is a mid-sized BBQ place with a proper stage and sound engineer. The opener brought along a...
  25. Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

^This my plan for tomorrow! Going to work myself in between the vocal lines, and do my best to anticipate the changes/add dynamics/fills and the take the occasional solo. Last time we played it was...
