    Re: sinker cypress

I've built a few classical guitars and a couple of steel strings flattop models with back and sides out of both Spanish cypress and Monterey cypress; I would not use it for tops, but I would use any...

    Re: Mandolin Player Magazine!

I used to write for and make a significant portion of my income from many of the old print media sources listed.

    Re: Carbon rod glue

The carbon itself is bonded together with epoxy. Sometimes you can use hot hide glue if you scuff it up to create a mechanical bond. CA glue also works fine.

Since you are asking about live situations and mentioned a couple of pedal type tuners, are you using a pickup?

Re: I miss the Classified Guitar posts....

There are plenty of guitar specific forums, but none like this one with heavy mandolin use. I found it very useful and made a lot of transactions whereby I could trade a mandolin for a guitar or...

Re: First build with James Condino

Luke's top is off the test rig and we glued it to the final rib garland this evening with the new go-bar deck. (More broken basses in the background!)

His fingerboard is made and fretted; binding...

Re: First build with James Condino

I only use hot hide glue for the entire instrument build across the spectrum of the entire mandolin family, guitars, and the double basses.

All of the processes are continually evolving; the back...

Ask one of the other fellows to upload some video; that's not my best skill set & I'm way too busy to add that to the list!

    Re: Mandocello as an octave?

The air volume and body cavity resonance on most mandocellos works well for an octave mandolin; I make most of mine with larger bodies. The scale length will likely be a bit long, so you can use a...
  14. Re: What are some of the best Mandolins that you all have played?

I played over 40 Lloyd Loar signed mandolins, mandolas, and mandocellos plus a ton of other great instruments in the last two months.

Guess what? They all sounded like me playing an old mandolin....

Great show today! Lots of cool people, plenty of cool instruments, and right down the road.

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

    * self edited* I read your other thread and it answered my questions.

You mentioned using an Acoustic Image Clarus; I use the 900 watt two channel AI Focus. Are you setting those controls flat?
