Whoa!!! Flat top?
I keep my gear together in a semi controlled environment in my basement. My mando goes sharp in the case whereas my flattop does not.
I am considering wrapping the case in a plastic bag; any risk...
Thanks guys. It was a duo setting with a talented singer/guitarist; I had about four tunes with fills but it was mostly rhythm (which I love). Weird acoustics in the room (Hops, Morristown NJ), the...
Gig was last night and "Daughters" went very well. The three motifs (guitar intro, short guitar break and short piano break) are very mandolin friendly.
For the bridge, I played the first chord...
(wisdom tooth extraction delayed my saying...)
Thank You!!!
Sitting in with a guitarist/singer next week and the bridge section of this tune is giving me a little trouble (compounded by the fact that I have 8 other tunes to get down and no time to practice)....
Tavy,
I do use a plug in tuner; it's in the effects loop of the Fire-Eye.
I play in a band with multiple electric guitars, bass and keys and use a solid top Rover (25S). I use the JJB Prestige pickups into a Fire Eye preamp and then into PA.
The Rover is overbuilt to a...
My favorite setup was to use 6 strings; single G and D, and double A and e.
FWIW, I had one of that builders mandocello conversions and it was an absolute blast to play. It tuned well and the string spacing was comfy. I have some significant nerve damage to both arms and let...
Here is my cheapie:

Dual stick-on transducers (used): $30

Old topic, dead horse, etc. alert.
I have been in different Guitar Centers maybe 4 times in my life, all 58 years of it. This past weekend I was on a business trip to City Of Industry and visited...
Timely thread for me, the following just happened Monday via text:
Guy I know: Can you sit in with us and play some Dead on mandolin?
Me: Sure, my go to tunes are Ripple, Rider and the...
So, no clips yet; one of the other guitarists didn't make rehearsal last night so there was some sonic space for me.
I took the opportunity to start a conversation about volume and dynamic, and...
The Sparkledrive has a feature that blends the original clean tone with the driven sound; I use it primarily for electric slide guitar parts. I wasn't sure how the compressor would respond to...
Len B.
I had a few minutes to test with a crappy amp last night, and the compressor seemed to work well. The amp is noisy as all get out, so I couldn't assess signal to noise with the compressor...
Folks,
I play mandolin on 4 tunes and am primarily a guitarist. My rig is
old MIJ Epiphone A with K&K pickups -> cheapo GMF Ai1 preamp -> PA.
I get usable sounds and have no complaints with...
Much obliged folks. Not that it has any impact on me recreating the part, I just like knowing the source. I would love to play in a pocket like that.
Actually, until I read your post, I was unaware of the amazing Mr. Albert Lee played mando, so you are a help!
Best I can tell it was recorded in 1996, so around the time of "Wrecking Ball" and the Spyboy tour.
I really like the tempo and groove - economical playing that serves the recording very well IMO.
Levon is one of biggest musical influences, I'd be knocked out but surprised if it was him.
A truly great version of a truly great song:
I am working up this version to bring to the guys. Who is the mandolin player on this, anyone know?
Wow, I had completely forgot about the harp!!! 2 of the older guys tried to describe it and I wish I had video taped it as it was truly hilarious. They spoke no English and I no Italian, we resorted...
Both of the instruments that I saw on Sunday had pretty girl pictures (albeit brunettes) like in the screen grab of bottom video; I think they are a crucial to getting the sound right!
