    Pardon my ignorance, but how does one find that page on the cafe? I cannot find the Cafe merchandise page either. :confused:

    Re: Warren Ellis 5 string Baritone Tenor

    <Violates forum posting guidelines.>

    True tenor guitars have four strings and a scale length between 21 and 23 inches. Any thing longer is a plectrum guitar. At 26 inches you will have your...

  10. Re: Neck heel crack repair on beater mandolin?

    The neck is coming out due to the pressure of the strings. CA glue will not help you. Time for a new mandolin.

    Re: Eastman 514 vs 314

    In the past I have owned both, albeit some years ago. The 514 will have a glossier finish, nicer tuners and more figure in the maple sides and back. The 314 has a thinner, matte finish and plainer...

    Thanks for the recommendation JB but I am retired from instrument work. My time is spent volunteering and building wooden boats at the lighthouse.

  17. Re: Early Gibson F-4 mandolins with both carved and arch tops?

    They are the same thing using two different terms. The tops and backs are carved from a thicker piece of wood (as opposed to a flat top) to produce an arch, like a violin.

  20. Ain't in it for my health; a film about Levon Helm

    A pretty moving documentary, Levon plays mandolin at the 52 minute mark as well as the end in a very touching scene.

    Re: Spring Reverbarator---1901

    Re: Spring Reverbarator---1901

    Pelone, to be fair, I do not believe that 99.9% of violin and mandolin builders today are even aware of the "string reverberator" that was patented in 1901. So of course they would not consider it.

    Again, to what aim? So what if it vibrated sympathetically with the strings? I think there is a good reason (I believe) that no one else beside the inventor ever incorporated into their mandolins or...
