Re: To Speed Neck or Not to Speed Neck

Don't do it. Or if you do don't square it off crudely, and add some stain to the wood so it doesn't have the color of my legs in February. There are a whole lot of ugly speed necks out there.

Re: Bill Monroe - Porter Wagoner Show, 1968

That's a good one. Something notable to me is how good Roland's rhythm playing sounds - you can really hear it in the mix.

    Re: Old Wave OM worth?

Can you recall what you paid for it new, or can you find the price for construction of an Octave on the Old Wave website? I'd think that could be a ballpark starting point.

Re: Super Monroe Ebenezer Scrooge video

That sliding 3rd part along (only played once) is so good it's almost bewildering.

    Re: Farewell Trion

Have you seen this video of James and Carl doing it?:

They play the 3rd part kind of sparingly.

Re: Anyone Never Get Past the 'Speed Plateau'?

This topic has been covered before and I always like to read the info. I think I'm in the monority in that I don't necessarily subscribe to the "you must pick it slow before you can pick it fast"...
  12. Re: Modern builds with vintage Gibson A character??

The late Bill Bussmann (Old Wave mandolins) made some great A-ovals in your price range. They come up for sale on the cafe from time to time.
