  2. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

Thanks for this note. I feel the person running the jam can do what they please and players can take it or leave it. If it ain't fun for whatever reason, the jam will eventually die. I think WW is a...

  9. Re: Replacement mandolin tuning machines 1920 a4

+1 on the Golden Age which I just had installed on my A4 at Gryphon Strings last month. I think there are originals available if you do a little research and want to shell out the $ for them.

    Re: RIP Frank Ford

Loved this guy; so intelligent, friendly, and funny. I had the pleasure of working with him to oversee some work on my A4 and he shared the history of the old Gibson's as only he could do. It was...

    Re: Tightening Tuners?

I'm posting this in case others have this issue. I'm in agreement with Paul Hostetler and HoGo that the tuners are usually not the issue. I had this problem on my Gibson A4 2nd A string. I had...
  12. Re: Article: California Bluegrass Association Kids Instrument Len

Agree Bob. They always can use non mandolin instruments as well especially small size fiddles.
  13. Re: Article: California Bluegrass Association Kids Instrument Len

Thank you Bob. I'll be on the lookout for that Snakehead in the capable hands of some youngin!
  14. Re: Any others here that started their mandolin/instrument later

I also started mandolin later. When I turned 40, I bought my first mandolin from Frank's Pickin' Parlor at the Strawberry Music festival. I'm on my 5th or 6th instrument and have never regretted a...

Congratulations Scott on starting this and keeping it going all this time. You definitely belong in the Mandolin HOF!
  16. Re: Heiden's....the most expensive modern mandolin builder?

I've loved all the Heidens that I have had the honor to play but I wonder how their resale value is compared to Gils, Montees, and Nuggets.

    Re: Love for Ovals

I love my old Gibson and found that it works well for most anything of what I play, OT, BG, Irish, and some blues. It's been played a lot and the old wood really moves me.

Re: 90% of us can’t do this.

I may be wrong but it seems to me that bluegrassers focus on this issue while jazz cats seem to encourage animated sounds, facial expressions and the like while playing.
  21. Re: Article: Matt Glaser and Andy Statman - An Intimate Discussio

Sweet, can't wait to read more. I met Andy a couple of times at the Mandolin Symposium where someone took the pic below and also on a recent visit to NYG. I'm fascinated at his deep approach to...

Re: VERY quiet mandolin for practicing?

How about she just practices very quietly which is a great technique for learning how to play relaxed and stress-free. Muting notes on left hand is one example or very shallow right hand tremolo.
