Re: High marks for Schaller GrandTunes

Anyone know if the Grandtunes would/could be a good choice for an Eastman 305? I didn't want to stick a lot of money in a mando that I would/could grow out of in the future, with the stock tuners...

Thanks to all for being here!
  3. Re: Finally had to set up my humidifier this year

I moved from the So Cal tall pines area where I had to have all instruments cased, to the San Diego area where the humidity inside hovers around 50%, and leaving them all out on stands. The problem...

Thanks for posting this Carl. Ken Burns touched on this in "History Of Country Music". Sweet little "Stand By Your Man" Tammy Wynette. I had no idea...

Re: Got to play on a small town TV channel…

Nice picking and nice touch with a Crowded House song, and coming from a great state with real people. :mandosmiley: Thanks for posting dang.
  8. Re: Is the Eastman 505 all that much better than the 305?

I also would be interested in some drop in replacement tuners LB. Someone suggested Grover 309's, but from what I read they are for F's, not A's?

I think you're right on the money Allen, and the...
  9. Is the Eastman 505 all that much better than the 305?

Also, the 505 comes with a hard case, not a gig bag like the 305. I don't really care about the hard case as the mando just sits out on a stand like my guitars, but for only $244 more I could have...

Re: From A Jack To A king

My bad. It's "From A Jack To A King" by Ned Miller. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJEs2uM7zaM I don't think Ned wanted to be a Queen. Duh.

Re: From A Jack To A king

I thought that was "From A Jack To A Queen". No? Nice song.

Re: One of those days - string changing woes

I'm guessing you can't use the Taylor Method to string a mando with regular (74's)? I never tried it, but wondering.

Re: NMD, But there's a problem

I'm sure you know to keep her playing and not throwing it down in pain (sounds like me...) you need a really good setup.

    Welcome to the forum Cap!
  17. Re: Sound difference between a 305 and a higher end Mandolin?

Yep, the tuners are not great, but the funny thing is they are much better now. I did lube them, but haven't lubed the nut slots yet, so I'm wondering if the slots are loosening up.

    As far as the...
  18. Re: Sound difference between a 305 and a higher end Mandolin?

Marcus, I no longer have the 515 after deciding I would never play mando again, I sold it. I actually like the sound of the 305 better, and the guy I bought the 305 from (you all know him) felt the...
  19. Sound difference between a 305 and a higher end Mandolin?

I haven't even learned much of anything other than my old songs, and already catching a bit of the "forum fever" looking around at other Mandos.

My question is; would the sound of a higher end...

    Re: China mandolin supply

Fees and regulations are hurting all truckers, and the young are just not getting into it. I'm not sure if it's a Ca. thing, but you have to be 21 to drive big rigs, and the kids fresh out of high...

Forgot to mention I bought the 305 from the Mandolin store with their pro setup, but to me the action seems as though it could come down a bit more. The problem I have now is finding someone who...

    Strings for sore finger tips

Was wondering if others (beginners?) are having problems with sore finger tips using 74's/mediums? I was doing all right with playing about 30 min. per day, healing for 24 hrs., but now they are...
