    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

"goof" lol! Good, obviously. I'd love to hear any opinions on whether I'm hitting the mark or not.

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

Here's another attempt at writing a goof oldtime tune. It's hard to come up with something that sounds authentic but not hackneyed.

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

This is another newer tune. I'm actually still working on it a bit. It's got a few tricky spots in it. This is the best version I have from my practice sessions:

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

This is a relatively recent tune that I haven't had the chance to record with anyone. It's a bit odd in that the first bar has seven beats, the rest of the tune is in 4/4.

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

Thankyou John, I appreciate the feedback. Some of this stuff was recorded in a proper studio, the rest is a mixed bag of rehearsals or live performances.

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

Here's one of mine in a medley with a couple of Grisman tunes off the "King Of The Gypsies" soundtrack. The solo by the vaguely guitar-like instrument is a vintage Gibson tenor lute.

    Down In Chapman's House

I wrote a bunch of old time tunes a few years back. This one turned out pretty well.

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

Thanks Dave. I appreciate the "robust" description. I probably put as much work into the arrangement as I did the tune. I was one time where I managed to record exactly what I was hearing in my head

    Re: Nick's Front Porch Mandolin

Another old time tune. This one's a bit crooked with an extra beat in bars 1 & 3 in the "A" part. Managed to lose the guitar player at the end:

That was about my budget, too. I decided to order a two-point from Larry Muth:

    Re: Original Mandolin Tunes

That was cool, very Celtic-y. I liked the bridge.

That's a nice, pleasant groove, easy on the ears. I like the harmony at the end.

    Re: Original Mandolin Tunes

Nice Dave! The first one sounds Celtic-y to me. It would sound great with a fiddle & some kind of squeezebox.

The second one is cool. There's a kind of jazzy, latin, bluesy mix that's pretty...
