I've had good luck with the J-62s on my Strad-O-Lins. If I can't get those, the Martin M-400s work, also...same gauges. I used the Martins for years before I found the J-62s.
I use the Turbotune, but instead of a drill I bought a cheap $8.00 electric screwdriver, and stuck the Turbotune on there. Works great and is lighter and safer than a drill. I've heard of people...
I had a Martin A that had a shorter scale. Those would be good for smaller hands.
Which is why you use a small, cheap electric screwdriver and not a big power drill. It is alo much lighter and easier to handle. If you think your buttons are starting to crumble, do it by hand.
I got in a couple of the new stools a couple weeks ago. The seats are bigger around than the old ones, about 12" or more in diameter now. I use them to set cold beverages and stuff on at gigs.
Buy a Dean Markley Turbotune and a small, cheap electric screwdriver, and you'll never wind strings by hand again. #It has a smaller opening for mandolin tuners, and also works great for double bass.
I agree here. #I only take my most stable mandolins out on stage. I've been using a Korg AT-12 for 30 years, and as I can hear better than I can see, I use the sound feature for the mandolin and tune...
1972 - Armstrong (Strad-O-Lin - 1930s) #- Still have, though I wore the finish off it in the first twenty years I had it.
1981 - Martin A (1954) - Too fragile - Traded for Stratocaster.
1987 -...
I'll answer as many questions as I can without measuring anything yet:
I didn't watch the operation, but I trust this guy. #He built my guitar, and it's the best one in the world. (My opinion, but...
How about "Smithwood"?
I got a Strad-O-Lin in 1972, and played it for years and years as my main mandolin. # After thirty years, I decided the frets were finally worn down enough to replace. #When the luthier started...
My first mandolin was a Strad-O-Lin, but I didn't know it at the time. #When I bought it in 1972 it had "Armstrong" decals on the headstock. #It was a great mandolin and I played the tar out of it...
Hi y'all.
I've been playing mandolin for 35 years, and for quite a while I've wanted to try a mandola. The problem? None in this area to try, and I don't want to buy on spec just to find out I...
