Sticky: Re: Thread for Social Group MP3 posting

My hypothetical MIDI arrangement of "The Maid Behind The Bar" for Song-a-Week 155. This is playback of the notes I wrote in MuseScore, for 2 mandolins, one GDAE octave tenor guitar, oldtime banjo,...

    Re: LiuQin

Thanks Jacob and Jim! :mandosmiley: I had no idea those existed. Those look so much like solid wood pegs that it's possible I may have seen them in action at some point and didn't even realize what...

    Re: LiuQin

:disbelief:  Cool! :mandosmiley: I've become a fan of geared tuners. In earlier times, I played old wooden-peg banjos (it was what we had so that's what I played) and of course fiddles, and...

    Re: Transcribe or Amazing Slowdowner?

:mandosmiley: I would only add that for the pitch change part of the procedure, one can use Audacity instead of Amazing Slow Downer or Transcribe.

I've used Audacity a few times on old field...

    Re: About TAB and SN

    Not just internet.

There was a 1960s regular printed/published book which was infamously badly written. Dozens of transcriptions of hideously error-riddled tunes, even though the author's...

Re: Open right hand to closed fist transition help

My anchor-point is my arm (just below elbow), kind of lightly perched at an angle on the edge of the instrument near the tailpiece. The contact area is small, and I haven't noticed any problems with...
  11. Re: What's the difference between Tenor and guitar tuned in fifth

    Short answer:

Yes. And still playing 6-string 5ths-tuned.

    Long answers: :whistling:

    1. (a) In the 1970s I played an old steel-bodied National tenor guitar tuned in fifths, GDAE,...
  12. Re: The merciless camera (recording ourselves as a reality check)

On the other side of the coin... After a certain point, occasionally you may notice *nice* things :mandosmiley: about your own playing - things that sound good in the video, but you didn't even...

    Re: Random mandolin sightings

Sesame Street, S49 E27 "Little Bo Peep Lost Her Cow", :)) has a mandolin-shaped prop/model of some sort being 'played' by one of the puppets. Screenshots below. Click pics to make bigger:

    Re: Why Mandolin?

There was one in the house when I was a kid. My dad played, but he did that tremolo stuff (pretty waltzes and such) and strummed chords for singing. Nice to listen to, but I didn't feel the bug to...

Re: Picking technique on electric mandolin?

One of these years I'm going to build (out of whatever scrap and/or cheap materials I can find) a quickie 8-string electric mandolin-tuned object, and it will have 8 frets. :disbelief:...

True, but there was an unexpected problem after I did that last year. Unfortunately, that particular iteration of v3.x reassigned a bunch of my Windows file associations - things that the Musescore...

    Re: MuseScore software

I do, but I'm still using the older version 2.1 which I'm quite happy with. :mandosmiley:

But I don't like the changes they made in version 3. (Too much to list here.) We'll see if the eventual...
  18. Re: How can I convert unsearchable PDF files to searchable PDF fi

Well I thought I'd found a clever solution to the problem, but it creates another problem.

    This part works:
Export as image, re-import that image to new pdf document, then OCR that and re-save...

    Re: How To Attach Photo?

This quickie video shows how I add a picture to my posts here, using a Windows computer and Chrome browser. I don't know if it's the 'right' method or not, but it seems to work for me... YMMV....

Not a browser issue, as it happens on both computer (local Ethernet) *and* phone (testing using phone-carrier "data" from many miles away,...
