Re: How high do you go

I’m not too interested in that end of the fretboard, but another 2 or 3 frets at the other end for a mandolin would be sweet!

    Re: Capo for an octave

My favourite capo is a very cheap guitar capo that I cut to the width of the 8th fret of my octave, then removed the spring and cut that to 2/3 before replacing it again. Then I cut down the two...

Re: How to practice Circle of 5ths

I actually did record a vid a couple of days ago, it’s a bit like Mark’s (great one) but mine was a bit too long.
Might just do a couple of workout, exercise vids with minimal explanation.

Re: How to practice Circle of 5ths

Another way to learn the circle of fifths:
Learn the first fret open strings GDAE then notes on the fourth fret B etc... and the notes on eighth fret, the last note at 1/8 is a C. The circle begins...

Re: How to practice Circle of 5ths

Thanks Bill, I think you can upload it to the ireal site and save a link, or upload the file itself to a dropbox account and then leave a link here.
On the other hand, it was fun playing the circle...
  8. Re: how do you prevent and get rid of hand cramps

Yes, another is to practice scales using zero thumb pressure. For people using the right picking hand the pressure comes from the right forearm resting on the body on the other side of the instrument...

Re: How to practice Circle of 5ths

Thanks. That is a good exercise for music literacy.

How about this variation on the same theme.
Try this one up the neck, no open strings while remembering where the root is for each one in the...

Re: Sharing a tool I use for practice

Thanks Nick, this seems interesting, I’ll have a look.
It reminds me that there are techniques that I still need to learn but haven’t because of my scattered learning process.

    I am an occasional...

Re: How to practice Circle of 5ths

Are there many people who see a difference between, ‘down by a fifth’, ‘down to the fifth’, ‘to the fifth, an octave below’, and ‘the interval is a fifth’?

Re: How to build a solo?

Is it possible for a solo to sound like someone reciting a list of English idioms?
I think Chris Thile, at his most entertaining, has done this before.

Re: Best Way to Practice Moveable Chords???

1 Learn the position on the fretboard of ALL 6 G notes. Name them by string and fret number. Eg. 4/0 3/5 2/10 1/3 etc. That should take 5 minutes.
2 Start by looking and then switch the lights off....

  20. Re: How do I put 2 recordings from Windows Media Player to YouTub

Simplest way may be to do a screen recording of the player, it will record it as a vid. Upload the vid to YT then add the thumbnail in YouTube.
