Here is a little tune I recorded last night. The quality isn't great because I just used my phone with a backing track on youtube. This is the S8. I love mine so far.

I just got mine today. I love it. This is just the sound I've been looking for. It is very comfortable to play. I got a tenor Uke gig bag for it and it fits perfectly. I'm impressed. I got the...
I actually sing better than I play mandolin. Just putting that out there. LOL! It really helps to know what kind of voice you have. If you have a naturally lower voice (most males do), then you...
I live close to you. I'm in Douglasville!
I got it new but since it was an "open box" I got a bit of a discount. It was around 450.
I ended up not getting that Eastman mandolin. I got a Kentucky KM-500 instead. It just showed up today. I slapped some new strings on it and intonated it. That thing is SWEET! I LOVE IT! It has the...
Thanks for the book Rob. I just made my nut files out of a feeler guage set with some diamond files in anticipation of a Kentucky KM-505 which should be arriving in the mail this week. Your book is...
Thanks for the info. I haven't "really" been a member for 8 years. I made an account a real long time ago, then didn't play mandolin for about 5 years. I only started playing again a couple of years...
Thanks yall. I played an Eastman 305 today at the music store and just loved it. I think I"lll get it. I already have a Kentucky KM-171 oval hole mandolin, and it is really a sweet sounding little...
What is the best sounding and playing A style mandolin with F holes at or under 500 dollars? What do y'all think?
I live in Douglasville, GA.
It is called an outside chord because it is outside of the key of C. There is no D major chord in the key of C. That doesn't mean you cannot play a D major chord in a song that is in the key of C. It...
I keep my mandolins and guitars tuned down a whole step all the time to best accommodate my vocal range. I just slap a capo on to play in standard if the need arises. After doing this for a while, I...
I'll move on to that one when I am done with intermediate level DVD 2, I guess. Sounds fun!
Thanks y'all. I really can learn tunes a lot faster this way. I just got done learning Golden Slippers in less than a week. I can play it a lot less times and remember it this way than with the tabs...
In response to how to switch from fiddle tunes to vocal songs: It seems pretty easy to me. Just stop playing the flurry of notes, and play chords. Then sing while playing the chords. When you stop...
I just use those yellow dunlop tortex picks (.73), but I sharpen the ends of them by rubbing them on the carpet. I used em for flatpicking guitar and mandolin, they both sound great.
I had a Kentucky 160. That was a great mandolin. I should have never gotten rid of it.
Thanks Sweetpea! I actually already know most of the songs on that DVD, but just not her versions. I can keep up real well with the intermediate DVD 1 so far. I just thought I might be missing...
I believe the reason she refers to them as 16th notes and 8th notes is because I believe that most bluegrass is in cut time. I think it is anyway! If that is the case would the references make sense?...
I just got the Murphy Method Intermediate Mandolin lesson. I've got the first two songs down, Sally Goodin and Old Joe Clark. I find this "learning by ear and watching" much better for me than...
Thanks a bunch OldGus! I got a new one from Folkmusician.com. I'm very pleased with it. Just what I was looking for!
I just got it today! I LOVE THIS MANDOLIN! I have to give thanks to everyone on the board that recommended it and folkmusician.com. What a difference a good setup makes. My wife is sleeping, but I...
Thanks y'all. I'm so so so excited to get this guy. I played a bunch of mandolins since I started playing a while back (on and off) and I really like the more mellow warm sound of the round hole...
