    Finishing is not my strong suit, but I'll mention that probably 50% of finishing problems are due to not waiting long enough between steps. And it probably doesn't hurt to double the drying time...

    Anything round and stiff will work for the washer in the bridge. I usually just shove a thick piece of weather-stripping felt in there, poke a hole in it, and give it a "haircut."
