Re: "Lost Soul Behind Bars" - NMC

Wow. These guys are good. A very well written article too. I grew up in Detroit with the Motown Soul scene and IMHO, this stuff is just a good. I have a friend that teaches violin in a Minnesota...
  2. Re: G Strings on Nearly New Eastman 805V-2022 Model

As a violin luthier, my guess without seeing the instrument, is that there is little you can do to improve the situation. You might try a different gauge string however.
    Also yes, you are spoiled...

This appears to be an audiophile's dream. Do you know any 'high end' stereo guys?

Re: DO I need a better mandolin?

Anyone in this situation like the original poster is doing the right thing by asking experienced folks. And just having this question, do I need a better instrument, indicates that there is an...

Re: 105 year old neck joints

A clever jig. I love the T shape made to raise the instrument enough for the clamps. But I wonder about the neck. Is the jig raised to accommodate the neck angle?

    Re: Illustrated Mandolin Chord Bible

Oh poor Mark. This discussion is going to add to his 'to do list'.

I think the best position for the chord chart is vertical and not at an angle. This is the typical orientation for chord charts...

    Re: Pro Plec 1.5

My current opinion of the juststrings.com pick was without comparison. It did sound pretty good. However this discussion got me to do a 'serious listening' with some other picks. On the guitar, which...

    Re: Pro Plec 1.5

Has anyone tried the free picks from JustStrings.com ? They came with some light strings for my guitar.

They are a little more slippery than the Dunlop's, and have a nicer sound than my GHS pick....

    Re: Illustrated Mandolin Chord Bible

Very nice website Mark. I had a little difficulty in understanding the angled position of the neck chart until I saw that it is a similar angle to the mandolin in the photo. A more obvious nut on...

I had to close the pop up boxes and do a search to get this page.

We all feel the same way about this. You know we are heartbroken too. However I could not think of a better place to share this story and gain some encouragement.

    Re: Todd Phillips Released

The Neon Tetra tune got me to flat-pick guitar and I can't count how many times I've listened to this cut on the other release; Hot Dawg.
Mar West 1980 is a little less polished and more tuneful...

    Re: Campanella Mandolin

If you meet the luthier, there is a good chance you'll buy his/her instrument.

I know a violin bow maker and have always wanted one of his bows. He became more and more renown and now I really...

Re: DO I need a better mandolin?

If you have some decent headphones you can listen to a number of fine mandolins played by some outstanding musicians (and not so talented musicians) on youtube. It may take a bit of research to...

    Re: Campanella Mandolin

I'm so glad I don't live near TME. Or the Mandolin Store or many others. I'm just gonna make another latte and play my custom Collings MT2. I keep telling myself to collect tunes - not...
  18. Re: Looking for different mandolin music to learn-obscure/nonstan

  19. Re: Trouble with my mandolin not agreeing with my straps

I totally agree with Pete Martin. I've got two Collings mandolins set up this way. But I strongly suggest a 'back up' thong going from a hole in the strap to under the tailpiece. There have been...

    Re: "Noodling" at Sessions

  22. Re: Article: Northfield Airloom Tūra & Tūra DLX Cases Announced

The 'Seafoam' model has a different latch. I'm a big fan of 'subway handles', or at least some way to hold it upright in a vertical position witch would require some 'feet' on the bottom end.
    They...
