    Re: FB SOL Incognito

    Re: FB SOL Incognito

If anybody wants to do this, I already vectorized the logo when I was doing the shirts, and could share it in an editable pdf format.

    Re: FB SOL Incognito

Since it's already been stripped, I think if I had this SOL that I would paint designs on the side and headstock.

Re: Keeping up with the Fiddlers

This thread is a fantastic compilation of useful insights, and I continue to appreciate everyone's perspectives.

  5. Re: What are the chances that a moderately-priced mandolin sounds

One's perspective on what "moderate" means can change pretty readily as MAS gets established.

The budget I set for myself for my first instrument was $250. 4 years in, $1995 doesn't sound as over...

Re: Keeping up with the Fiddlers

This is an interesting concept that a few people here have alluded to, and so it bears consideration. I have always heard previously that one should start slow and that if you try to speed up before...

Thanks again everybody! Really good stuff here.

This sounds like a great exercise. I will try it.

Re: Keeping up with the Fiddlers

Busy weekend. I've been taking note of everyone's excellent advice, but haven't had a chance to weigh in.

I'm in a learning environment, so there are mixed abilities among all the instruments,...
  10. Re: Bluegrass Mandolin Jam Tunes by Rick Williams any good?

Looks cool, but he specifically states: " Bluegrass Jam Tunes books are not available by mail; you must come to the store in person to purchase one."

So if you don't live in Oklahoma ....

    Keeping up with the Fiddlers

They just want to play so dang fast, and I can't seem to do it. I can memorize the tunes, and I can play long strings of eighth notes, I just can't keep up with the fiddles I'm trying to play with.

    Funky old canvas case/gigbag ?

I got this "case" with a 4-string converted banjo mandolin that I bought from Jake Wildwood a couple years ago. (It's a cool instrument, but I haven't played it much and am thinking of trading it...

I'm in the greater Derry area. I bought a case late last year from a couple in Concord who told me about the group. They are probably part of your circle as she also mentioned playing with the...

    Re: Hello All!

Hey Garrett, are you familiar with the NH Scottish Music Club in Concord?

I haven't been, but was told about it by someone who attends, and it sounds kind of cool.

My Grandmother was Jemima Grace Jamieson, and she immigrated from Scotland in 1917. Thanks for this, Frank, it's lovely :mandosmiley:

    Re: Yet Another CF Mandolin?

I wonder if those electronics are sealed with waterproof controls. If not, it defeats the purpose just a tad. I've spilled coffee on both sealed and unsealed keyboards, and there is a difference.

    That's a real nice mandolin.
  20. Re: anyone seen/tried a B&J two point like this?

    I wasn't. But I'm a newbie in more ways than one :)
  21. Re: anyone seen/tried a B&J two point like this?

I would. If only for the rose on the back :mandosmiley:

Also, a quick google says B&J is apparently a New York distributor. Could this be one of the first two-point Strad-O-Lins?

If you provided them with that input, it might not be too late to influence the final carbon timber design.
