then you have a pretty broad definition of bluegrass..... i'd say they're closer to classical quartet playing.....
Hawktail is as far from Bluegrass as you can get. I saw them again at Wintergrass a couple of weeks ago. Has Mr Sun been mentioned?

For a $20k mandolin I'd be looking at the competition & Gibson wouldn't be at the top of my list. In alphabetical order Ellis, Gilchrist, Heiden....

Do you have a photo of the picks? Guitar & Mandolin companies don't include picks (Weber used to).....likely put in the case by your dealer... a photo would really help

"Flatwound" strings are polished smooth, (so there's less finger noise) & you can't see the windings. Some guitar string brands have different colour ball ends....but if the strings are silk...

That's right, but he was also a musician. IMO there's something to the design of benchmark instruments; the F5 for example and the Martin OM. Changing the body depth changes an instrument's tonal...
