I do not know the actual truss rod you are looking at in the Brunh.
It could be similar to the ones from LMII. These appear to have mild steel threaded rod and a stainless nut. Might be a dissimilar...

There does appear to be cracks in the rim wood on both sides of the dovetail that registers with the heel failure...
I would;
1. Repair
2. JB Weld or CA the joint
3. Make a top and back splice patch from a paint stir stick and sand most of the patch away
4. Edit and retitle the op with "Bass-sized fiddle...

What if the joint was made this way to be easier to remove the board, much like the weaker glue mix for violin...
