  1. Re: Anyone else have no players near them?

I'm doing just that. I got in touch with the new UU pastor here to talk about it, and she's interested in hosting a coffee house. We're talking after the holidays are out of the way.

    Re: Gibson Snakehead A Junior

Congrats. Jammed with a buddy last night, and the snakehead came through for me better than ever. What a great little axe!
  3. Re: Anyone else have no players near them?

Here in northern New England, playing with other people can mean traveling. I've often driven two hours each way just to jam. But since Covid struck, I've had to reduce my music travel considerably....

    A 57.

They sound good, they last forever, and the price is right.

Re: How to search through a big PDF?

Yes, and it works great for big files, too. See post 10.

To make an index, I'd normally say create a spreadsheet, but with 7,500 tunes, that wouldn't be practical. So hitting Find still seems like...

Re: How to search through a big PDF?

'Zackly. That's the arrow I mentioned.

I've used it to search entire books. The length of the PDF (or any other text) doesn't matter. If you want to know how many times someone says murder in...

    Re: Pickup options?

There's not much space between the bridge and the top.

It's starting to sound like I should just try a different adhesive. Next time I'm out and about, I'll get a package of those little blue...

    Re: Pickup options?

Yes, I've had several endpin jacks. They're good. It's not what I'm looking for now, though.

    Re: Pickup options?

Yes, the JJB is the same type of pickup. And like yours, mine mars the mandolin's finish. That's why I want to get something else.

    Re: Pickup options?

Yup! As I said in post 1, it works fine. The problem is that the sticky round pickups remove the mandolin's finish.

Yes, I know. My last mando had a Tapastring jack.
  14. Re: Better machines give better sustain?

The wood doesn't know what the metal weighs.

Why do you think the difference you're hearing is because of the tuners and not the bridge?

PS - I always sound better when I've been cleaned.

    Re: Pickup options?

Yeah, they're great. That's what my last mando had and what my current dread and two resos have. But I want to be done with drilling out endpins, so I'm hoping to figure out an agreeable external...

Re: How to search through a big PDF?

    It's easy.

    Open the file.

On a Mac, hit Command F.

On a PC, I think it's Control F. (If that doesn't work, look for Find in your control panels. It's definitely somewhere.)

    The Find...

    Pickup options?

The JJB clamp-on external pickup I got a while back isn't working out. It sounds fine, but the mando finish looks a little bit worse every time I remove the little round things you stick on at the...

    Re: How to remember tunes?

The number varies, but I've heard advice like that. It's probably good advice for those who can pull it off, but it boggles me. Twenty-five? I've been playing guitar regularly since '68, and there...

    Re: The cure for MAS

Yeah, this is a one-in-one-out (OOIO) house, too.

But lucky for me, I'm in the same situation as Librarydog: My mando and guitars all do it for me better than anything on the rack. With mandos,...

    Re: Recommendations For Headphones?

I don't know the model. I do know:

    - Closed-back will give you getter isolation. That's an advantage. The disadvantage is that you won't know if you have a phone call or someone's a the door.

    -...
  23. Re: Overwhelmed beginner - merging of styles/genres?

    Welcome, Isaiah!

I'm not a pro, just a guitar slut who accidentally fell into mando a few years ago.

My genres are a lot like yours: folk, blues, old-school country, Americana, garage rock. And...

Re: Let's hear your BEST musical joke?

Sorry, can't narrow it down to one. Managed to get it down to two, though:

Q: What's the best pickup to put on a banjo?
    A: A Ford F-150.

Q: What's the difference between a viola player and a...
