Re: Tuning issues - Octave Mandolin

You've received a lot of feedback about setting up the instrument properly, and you should get that done. But also make sure you check your strings. Depending on how long you've had your instrument...

Re: Violinist- New to Mandolin- Any Advice?

Hello! I'm a violinist (Bachelor's degree in violin performance, half a master's degree) who has gone to mandolin, and now mostly octave mandolin. I also lean to the classical/celtic sound as well...

Re: The truth about Eastman octaves

    Click bait title!
I do like the sound of the instrument though. Curious as to what strings are on it.

Re: Sierra Hull on Steven Colbert

To be fair, it's a job. I'm not sure that that is and of itself enough of a proof that his musicianship is to be admired.

I didn't really enjoy the video of the performance myself. I also...

Yeah! The triplets can get bogged down, and then...

Re: The Banshee on Octave Mandolin

Well, with open strings, I only need to worry about what one hand is doing ;)

And thanks! I actually don't play guitar. I'm a classically trained violinist, but I've fallen in love with the octave...

    Re: Recording Mandolin

You should check out the Zoom Q2n 4k recorder. You can record video and just audio using it.

    I put together a bit of a review: https://youtu.be/N06qbPyvQ0o

But here's the specs from Zoom:...

Re: 20 mins superb Celtic tunes

    Love your playing!
  13. Re: New to playing Celtic music but I see its big locally

Keep in mind too, that mandolin in Celtic/Irish settings is relatively new compared to other instruments. But as learning any genre, you'll have a better base if you use a variety of sources.
  14. Re: New ideas in playing two voices on one mandolin.

Sounds great! I'm curious as to what specifically makes this two voices versus traditional double stops? Is it because you're plucking the strings with separate fingers simultaneously?

Re: New Beethoven project coming soon

Might have to get it! The teaser video with the music is simple, but very effective.
