It's time to just enjoy it for what it is and use it to learn more about the mandolin. It won't be...

If she's brandy new adi spruce, it will take some time and serious playing to bring it around to her potential. Enjoy the break in period. ;)

Or would that be Grovers? Appears to be...and that's a good question. They look very nice, even for Grovers ;)

    Re: New Mandolin Style

Why not remove the back of this one and let us all take a look under the hood? There may be few lessons to learn fixing some of the issues before starting your next build??? Just thinking out...

    Re: Removing Northfield Pickguard

Yup, it's owner DIY, just don't scratch up the top playing without a PG. It's a tougher resale when the time comes imho.

    Re: Pros/Cons - 4 vs. 8 strings

There's a lot of this same mandolin with different brand names. Here's a pic of my Morgan Monroe. Same as yours except for the name.

Re: Beginner with new Gold Tone GME-5 questions

You're getting close I see. Can you cut the screw shorter, cleanly so you can thread it back into the saddle? Don't want to mess up the threads. Or if you can get a shorter screw with the same...

  10. Re: Rigel Mandolins not responding emails - tailpiece question

I've owned 3 A + Deluxes and a G-110 and all had Schallers but that wouldn't preclude other brands. Could be anything I suppose...

  11. Re: Any modern(cheaper) mandolins with a Gibson model A 1924 soun

I would think that Eastman oval hole mandolins would at least be comparable. I'm not sure if a 15 fret neck joint would make that much of a difference vs. a 12 fret neck joint of the Gibson but...
  12. Re: Rigel Mandolins not responding emails - tailpiece question

Schaller tuners were pretty much standard equipment on Rigel mandolins. Should be an easy replacement.

  13. Re: Making a bridge setting jig - good idea or not?

It seems like a bit of overkill if you are only setting bridges on flat top instruments (like a cigar box uke). Stew Mac has a jig for setting bridges on arch top instruments.

Re: My new and first electric mandolin!

My amp is a Fender Super Champ X2 with pretty much the same geometry you describe above JB, channel 1 is tube driven and channel 2 is DSP modeling of amps and cabinets. Enjoy your new axe Isaac!!

I guess I'm partial to the Tube Amp Overdrive you mentioned. The Gil has my attention but they all sounded great...I would love to own the Hogan in 10 years, very sweet. btw - your playing was...
  16. Re: String preferences for Collings MTO oval mandolins?

I don't own a Collings MTO so this can be taken with several grains of salt. With my 1916 F-4 I have tried many types of strings including TI mittels and have settled on D'Addario EFW-74 flat wound...

    Re: 1951 F-12 Versus F-5 Construction?

The scale lengths should be the same for both the F-12 and F-5 at ~13 7/8". The question is whether it is a 12th fret or 15th fret neck join. I don't remember when Gibson switched to the 15th fret...

Re: New Tuners for Vintage F2

I'm sure there are articles on slipping tuner buttons either in Paul's posts or on Frank Ford's www.frets.com pages. Cures will likely include Super Glue or a variation on CA adhesives. Mine is a...
