Re: Best use of bulk time?

Make full use of the huge resources at MandoLessons.com (and donate!).

Learn new tunes by watching the video breakdowns and learning them by ear, not just from tab.

    General rule of thumb is...

    Re: Mandolin Mashed Finger Pics

I'll just put in a plug for the Climb On bar. Keeps those callouses from hardening too much and then peeling away (what I used to call "molting").

Re: Speed of bluegrass... is it just me?

Never said that playing fast wasn't expressive. Just that there are those (in many genres) that concentrate on speed and forget the expression. For every John McLaughlin, Victor Wooten or Chris...

Re: Speed of bluegrass... is it just me?

Bluegrass, and mandolins, are not the only genre/instruments that struggle with this. The guitar (and bass) worlds are full of shredders that may have taken technical capabilities to an extremely...

    Re: Bad habits?

Nut width relates to the string spacing (or more specifically the spacing between the pairs [or courses] of strings) the same way as on a guitar. A wider nut means more space between the courses. I...

That looks like fun. Is that only offered in Australia or does he do that in the US, too? Couldn't find any more info on his site.

Re: Mandolin player crossing over to guitar

+1 on Carl and Mark's recommendations.
