    Re: Damaged Gibson F5

Gail Hester is still building. She's trying to get away from repair work. I would take my guitar or mandolin to Gary Wagner. He's incredible at repair work. You might also want to consider contacting...
  3. Re: I know this is a subjective question but rank your top player

There are so many great players. Not yet mentioned, but definitely should be on the list are: Jesse Brock, Michael Cleveland, and Skip Gorman.

    Re: Peghead Nation Video Courses

I don't think you have to memorize the exact way the tune is played. In my opinion, tab, notation and learning by ear are guidelines how to approach a tune. There are a couple tunes that you can find...

    Re: Peghead Nation Video Courses

If you look, you will find that tab is offered for pretty much each video. I'm currently in Mike Compton's course. When you log onto the lesson, below the video is a description of the lesson. Just...

    Re: Speakers/Monitors (no mando content)

Well, the main purpose of the speakers would be as stage monitors for the band. With regard to me plugging my bass in, that would be during a jam, out in a field somewhere. I really like QSC, but...

    Speakers/Monitors (no mando content)

I play with an acoustic bluegrass band. Usually four to five members. I am currently using a QSC Touchmix 8 board and two QSC K12 speakers. I don't have any monitors but am currently looking to buy...
  8. Re: Could I leave mando in car in winter while skiing?

I was always told not to leave in instrument in a car in conditions that you wouldn't leave a dog or baby.

    Ruhland At Carters

Has anybody played the Ruhland F at Carters? What do you think? I've messaged Carters a couple times, but they have not responded to my inquiries. They do respond to requests for information, right?

    Re: Fall camp recommendation?

I've attended both Swannanoa and Monroe camps. I returned to Monroe camp several times, although not within the last several years due to unrelated issues. Both camps are great. You will be exposed...

    XVive U4

Anybody use this IEM? I run sound for my bluegrass group. We use a QSC Touchmix 8. All mics are plugged in, but I use a wireless for my bass. I've looked at all sorts of reviews, with mixed results....

    Re: Top Current Makers

I'd put Gail Hesters mandolins up there with other great builders. Biggest mistake I ever made was selling the F she made for me. Fit and finish are excellent. Dry woody tone. It is extremely rare...

No reason to be afraid of Monroe if you were a woman.

    Re: Good mic for...

I second the AT 4033. There's a bunch of used ones, was well as new ones, on Reverb. You will safe $$$$ and will find that it works just as well as ET's. No matter which mic you buy, you still have...

    Thinking Of Altering Mando

I have a Gibson Fern. I was thinking of having the Florida scooped and changing the neck to a "speed neck". Will doing that affect the value of the mando?

    Re: Shipping

No matter who you ship with, make sure it's packed properly and insured. I sent a guitar with FedEx. They damaged it and would not honor the claim. I fought with them for a year. Emails back and...

Re: Live Mic for Mandolin Recommendations

I'm another fan of AT Pro 37. They are relatively inexpensive. You can find used ones for less on Craigslist, Reverb, etc.

    Re: In Ear Monitors

To be honest, I'm typically the guy who runs the PA system. I think this job frequently falls on bass players for some reason. Many times we are playing smaller venues and don't use monitors. But I'm...

    In Ear Monitors

I'm sure this has been discussed a ton o' times, but, I'm thinking of investing in a IEM system, at least for myself. I play bass in a four/five member bluegrass band. We mostly use a Touchmix 8...

Re: What PA gear brands do you favor?

I really like QSC. But if I was in the market for a less expensive mixer, I'd go with a Mackie ProFx mixer. They are pretty sturdy. Alto speakers are good for the money.
  24. Poll: Re: Just starting out -- Should I really learn to "read music"?

Interesting that the term "tab addicted" was mentioned. It could be said the same for those who read notation. I've encountered several musicians who were trained in classical music that read...

    Re: Gibson Tailpiece

Sorry, I forgot the screws were discussed earlier. I don't have a cloud tailpiece. Hope you didn't take Mafia money.
