You have already been given a lot of good advice which I won’t repeat.
If I was in your shoes, I would spend some time looking at mandolins in the UK first. That’s not as easy as it used to be...
Its a little bit out of your way, but I would recommend contacting John Alvey Turner. Phil Alexander plays bluegrass mandolin himself and they have done some good setup work on a few of my mandolins.
There are two others that I am aware of:
Mandolin Blues Book by Brent Robitaille
The Blues play-a-long and solos collection for mandolin by Andrew D. Gordon
Very much so! Its got a great, warm tone. I've used it for blues, fiddle tunes and even a bit of classical. If I could play jazz, I'm sure that would sound good as well. Of all the instruments I've...
National make a wood bodied version of their tenor guitar. The scale length is 23". I've got one.... its great and would highly recommend it.
I believe that there is another one listed on Reverb...
I've got a National RM1 - its loud and can be brash, but it has a unique voice and you can pull some great tone out of it with a bit of practice. Its great and probably the only mandolin I will never...
I've just tested this with my RM1 and my 70s dobro mandolin - I played each of them as as loud I could and measured the volume with the decibel meter on my iPad...
...and it turns out that you are...
Are you thinking of the ones that have been done in vinyl? If so, its:

I keep having a look at that Strad-O-Lin... it a nice price but think that my wife would do terrible things to me if I bought another mandolin this year. John Alvey Turner are good and Phil Alexander...
An armrest? Whether you need one is a bit subjective, but the inlaid ones from Hill County Stringworks are very nice and definitely worthy of being given as a Christmas present...
Hi Bryan - Here are a few recommendations:

This might not help much, but there is a Gregory mandolin for sale in the UK at the moment:

Thanks everyone, really grateful for your suggestions! I'll give them a try and let you know how I get on...

Hi all! I'm not sure how to approach the last bar in the 2 octave F-major arpeggio in the picture below... its from Marilyn Mair's book and she usually signals where you need to shift position, but...
Have you tried cutting back the fabric string windings?
I bought a 20" scale Weber octave from a forum member earlier in the year and it has TI flatwounds on... its not something I'd ever considered doing buts its a pretty magical combination - it brings...
I've played one of these - its fantastic.
I've got a Waterloo mandolin and think it is great - flawlessly built, easy to play, loud and its tone works well for the type of music I play...
...I haven't played the other flat tops mentioned,...
Hi Scott - could I get mine changed to Rob Boyett.
Thanks!
