Re: Modes of the diatonic scale?

    Yes! And no.

Lets stay on C. So playing the D Dorian scale is just playing the C scale, no sharps or flats, starting from D. But...D MAJOR has two sharps, F# and C#, which are the 3rd and 7th...

Re: Modes of the diatonic scale?

    D Mixolydian is D E F# G A B C.

    A Dorian is A B C D...

I've never owned a bowel back, but they must be very hard to keep clean.

Apparently it will take something more direct to satisfy me.

    I haven't seen Don Julin's book, but I'm sure it's great.

This one is too, if you can find a copy. https://www.amazon.com/Theory-Modern-Mandolin-Thomas-Ohmsen/dp/B0006ED1HY

Not much mandolin content, but lots of music!

Mine is basal joint arthritis. It's the most common arthritis in the hand. Nothing much can be done. I wear a brace, which helps a little, and ice often after playing.

  13. Re: What is the difference between a trill and a hammer-on?

The trill isn’t just the one move, it’s quickly repeating. I’ll find you an example. Common in classic music and funk.

So, there are other ways to trill, but it is...
