Yes, I agree about the wind screen. I don't know if that would even be possible in this case though—the sound was just picked up by a tiny pinhole mic on my friend's...
There are times when things just click and everything seems right. The weather, the setting, the tunes... and today was just one of those days. 12 string and 8 string, a good ol' tune and no worries....
5 sets of J-74s and Dix Bruce's Gypsy Swing and Hot Club Rhythm - great work-out on the chord front!!

A friend and I enjoyed yesterday's national holiday here in Tokyo by heading to a local park and having a casual guitar / mandolin Jam. (Strictly amateur, but lots of...
I agree with lots of the points mentioned above. I usually have to change my strings every three-four weeks but it depends. I use J74s. Some sets last slightly longer then others.
I also agree...
We are doing alright in Tokyo. It was big here but it was nothing compared to the tsunami-affected areas. Praying for the people up north and worrying about more aftershocks and the nuclear...
Thoughts and prayers going out to any members of the cafe who were affected by the quake in Japan.

Thanks for the replies. I raised the action a bit and it seems to have made a difference, without compromising the intonation. I'm not sure if the action was set a little too low the last time I got...
Hi There,

Rob
I have an 8 string Mandobird.
It needed a bit of work to fix the intonation (the neck was a bit warped). It also needed the standard set-up work to fix the action.
It's fun to play, and, I...
Hi All,
Thank you for the replies! I really appreciate the input.
Perhaps warm and mellow weren't the proper words to describe what I'm looking for but, yes, something different from the F...
Looks and sounds great. Awesome pictures.

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to get some opinions about oval hole mandolins.
I've been playing an Eastman 515 (f holes) for a while now and it sounds great, I also like the V style of neck....
My mandolin says I sit too close to the microphone.:crying:(ouch)
Thanks Jamie,
I appreciate the advice! Been a while since I posted... I always have to relearn the tech stuff.
I didn't mention before... The shamisen solo spot comes in about 2 minutes into...

Yep, That's a park in Tokyo. It wasn't too cold when the sun was out but when the clouds came the temperature dropped a bit. Managed to play about 3 hours that afternoon.
People seem to...
