Gotta love the rustic photo of the old chair, books, and rubble.......
A technique that collector's of rare records use is too locate other band members, if possible. Or, their heirs, in this case. More than likely someone has a copy. Since you know the city and...
IMHO, 97% of instrument repair can be accomplished with hand tools....small Japanese saw, miniature files, sandpaper (sometimes wrapped around a dowel stick for shaping), small C clamps,...
ok, i had to look up "shoe molding".......
It doesn't sound like the OP wants to make the trip to Nashville, but here is my experience. I went to Carter's a few months ago and ended up buying a guitar. Due to covid, an appointment was...
Thanks for sharing, Jake! I enjoyed your demo very much. All are great mandolins. Great playing, too. :mandosmiley:
The Liz Taylor connection is novel, IMHO. At least, as opposed to (the usual) celebrity-owned instruments by Johnny Depp or Richard Gere....
Very nice picture of Liz.
At that price, it would...
This discussion made me think of a NYC trip I made 40 or so years ago. Walking past of mountain of 20-30 mattresses on the sidewalk in front of a building, I asked my NYC friends what's up with...
Not sure what it is. Doesn't look like an A50, looks more like an A-5L. Top looks sunken. Tuners are an odd choice, which makes me think they might have actually come from a vintage A50, as well...
I got a chuckle that in 1998, not only that Ramona Jones valued it at $50, but that the buyer required a notarized bill of sale stating as much! (needless to say, the "vintage guitar" market...
No worries, my prediction is that they will still be around 100 years from now, along with Gibson, General Motors, etc........
It appears to have 8 strings on it already. I would be very careful not to break them.........:mandosmiley:
I have to admit that enjoying Springsteen is a guilty pleasure for me, and not without conflict. I often wonder how a guy worth $500 million bucks can be a spokesperson the the "common man?" But, I...
Coupla thoughts........
1. I believe 3 different members have mentioned having packages "Lost" and then show up later.(?) In my way of thinking, if it shows up, even a week, month or year later...
One of the all-time great players and proof that the 10,000 hour practice rule (plus Schlitz beer) works!
RIP, EVH
Interesting way to look at it.
A couple times on my eBay sales, I ended up selling guitars to well-known rock stars. Both times they requested FedEx overnight. Once to a studio. Once to a...
I'm convinced instruments were "happier" back when they stayed in their own hometowns.........:mandosmiley:
1. For the record, StewMac shipping has always been high, even 35 years ago.......I could add their products are priced high, as well....
2. People want shipping to be FREE, cheap shipping isn't...
Appears to be a bolt-on neck joint? Might need to loosen strings, fill worn screw holes with toothpicks, dowels, glue -- then shim and tighten. You may need to glue fingerboard extension back down....
On a more local level, some of my friends have given virtual concerts on Facebook with amazing initial success tip/donation-wise. One man who is unknown outside of his followers and locally made...
Yep, "sight reading" (in tempo) is the goal as others have stated......
As a kid in the 60's I took guitar lessons and my sister took piano. Her first teacher was an older guy, a real square who...
I have a similar theory about the name Paul Smith guitars.......didn't sound too exciting until he added the "Reed" in the middle......;)
Good looking mandolin, by the way...............!
It sounds like a ground wire. Same as on an electric guitar. The easiest way to test is with the instrument plugged into an amp and then use a wire with an "alligator" clip at each end (these were...
I always start simple and see if that works. I would wait a week, then string it up as it sits and see if it holds. It may be fine.
Otherwise, you have a nightmare instrument as far as a...
