One of the best times to learn about Mike Compton is at the Monroe Style Mandolin Camp in the fall at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owenboro, KY. You get to spend the weekend basically...
I'm glad to hear you're going to be there as well! Danny Clark and myself will be there for the first time this year as well representing the International Bluegrass Music Museum just like we did at...
I have the James on my 700. It's wonderful.
This video must be purchased to be viewed?
Any idea the name of the movie?
Sounds like a real example of one mans trash is another's treasure. Any chance you can get a picture of Lester for us to see from that record? Sounds very neat!
All the info is in this video:

I bought my 700 from FolkMusician.com and it was in fantastically playable condition when I received it. (no financial interest)
I had one that came with my Loar LM-700. Good case except that the sides fit too tightly if you want to leave a ToneGard on it.
The 2 Loar''s Elderly had were both gorgeous. The July 9, 23 (#73984) was wonderful and a full, rich tone you could expect from that period. The Feb. 1, 24 (#75702) was a very nice tone, but much...
Photos of said mandolin?
I had why sounds like the same issue on my LM700 and eventually the only fix was to pull the frets and plane the fretboard and it totally eliminated it.
Definitely replace it. I have the CA bridge on my 700. Just last week at the Monroe Style camp a fellow had a new 700 with the original bridge on it and the top was actually cut backwards.... Not a...
Looking forward too seeing you there again Raymond! Safe travels!
I love the diversity I can pull out of my 700. I can easily chop and play a lead line or just as easily play a jazz tune as well. What kind of music are you planning on playing?
I was intrigued by this thread and just figured I'd mention I saw that just strings has the FW74 for 10.30. Sounds like a good price.
I have no financial interests in that company.
I have a The Loar LM70" with the gold Gotoh tuners and am wanting to replace the buttons with something less plastic looking. Where could I find something for this? They are the slip on type with a...
Both of the mandolins in that video sound fantastic. :mandosmiley:
As long as the stars align properly I'll be there again for year #2. I don't have many excuses since it's only a half mile from my house.
Listening to that tune played through and knowing the story behind it I can easily imagine your grandfather sitting on the porch covered in coal dust and playing it to get through the hard times at...
Hey Joe! How about some more pics of this one?
They have done at least 10 this year. The Mandolin Store in AZ has some if I remember correctly.
That's Kenny Vaughan and he is a regular member of the Fabulous Superlatives. He is obviously a fantastic guitarist and one heck of a nice guy to boot.
