    Re: La Fürstenberg

Thanks Eugene. I should be more specific. But I always am looking for scores showing what the pick does, in order to get closer to what the composer intended.
One more question, what is the...

    Had to change my strings

I hate changing strings. I don't find it that difficult, I have been doing it for almost 10 years now. But I don't like very much the sometimes metallic sound of new strings. I only have bowl backs...

Re: Aria del 700 Amadeo Amadei

Thanks Joe. I did my searches with Amedeo in both English and Italian. Lots of scores available, but could not find Aria del 700.
I even checked the scores in the Nakano library. However there are...

    Re: the Nakano Collection

Thanks Jairo. The site is of great value.
I join you in thanking Martin Jonas and Sheri Mignano. I have used the scores they shared over the years.

    Re: Feline String Change Caution

Good thing I now play classical guitar. I even encourage the cats to play with the nylon strings. I make sure they are not around when I change mandolin strings.

    Allargando and rallentando

    What would be the difference?
    They both mean slowing down.

Re: My Bowl back Carl Fisher mandolin

The mandolin looks good. I would not do anything to that brass bolt. If the neck is straight and the action is good, the instrument playable and stable, don't touch it.
    Unless it is bothering you...

    Re: Calace method exercise 52

No 50 is completely different. You have to check no 49. In classical methods like Munier and Calace, you use a down stroke to move from one string to another. It's also like playing the violin you...

I was going through these picking exercises as I am trying to play some Calace pieces. These start in exercise 49, which is quite interesting and challenging. In exercise 52, syncope and tremolo, my...

  19. Re: New Player / Question about bowlback mandolins

I am not sure if Matsikas would do a setup. If you intend to buy an old bowl back restored, just have a good look at what was repaired, and other details. And yes they need some care and light...
  20. Re: New Player / Question about bowlback mandolins

Matsikas are good mandolins. I have tried them out in their shop in Athens. However a bowl back needs a very good set up and thomann don't offer that.
  21. Re: New Player / Question about bowlback mandolins

    Check this site http://www.mandolinluthier.com/mandolins_for_sale.htm
You don't necessarily need a bowl back to play classical, maybe an oval hole mandolin would do for you.
