Yeah I might try to do something like that...
Thanks!
Jim, this looks very good and sort of what I was going for. Fabricating that plastic piece with the cork under it is what my main issue is...how did you got about doing it? Do you have the...
Hey y'all! Long time since I posted on here - hope everyone is well! :)
I was wondering what people use to replace those old pickguard clamps on their Gibson A mandos.
I don't want to drill a...
Hi all!
I've been off this website for a while, but some of you might know I am working at a comprehensive (can't say "complete" in this type things, really ;) ) discography of small-label Blue...
Wow...well there you go :)) anyone on here got it? If it was a mandola indeed, it was nothing for me.
Matt.
Hi folks - long time no talk! Hope everyone is well!
I've been eyeing this one for some weeks...price dropped considerable and now seems very reasonable...

Hi folks!
I recently bought a Venetian style Kay-made mandolin with its original case, very trashed. I am wondering which modern case maker (if any) has something that'll fit this properly.

Thanks everyone for the quick help! Love this forum!
Matt
Very good conditions, a bit of playwear (nothing dramatic), original tuners, original period-correct case, no top sinkage, no cracks.
Non-original bridge. Missing pickguard.
Most probably correct Dave...but I am based in Italy ;)
Yeah that's certainly right houseworker. So what would you guys say is the current US market value for one similar mandolin?
Yes, that's the way I understood it too.
How would this make sense? Does it mean it was ordered in 1922 and built over the course of two years? Would this, commonly speaking, make it a 1922 A-2?...
Hi all!
I am definitely no expert on Gibson serials, FON and so on...I have always relied on the Mandolin Archive to provide rough dating for instruments, so please excuse me if the question is...
I am interested in this, so I'm probably going to contact the seller, but I wanted to ask the Cafe experts' opinion before going any further.
The price on this A4 is very inviting to say the...
Howdy everyone!
We all know about the Colonel's 1911 3-pointer F4, aka "the big mandolin"...
In some early photos (the 1948-1949 ones taken during the Lilly Brothers' tenure on WWVA) you see him...

Nuff said.
Hello, I am helping a friend who has asked me the rough value of the two mandolins in the pics below. Those would be:
1) Sound To Earth (now Weber) Bighorn. Serial 41254306
117662
2) Old Wave...
Gary, I've been working a few months at cataloguing and dating all those recordings, splitting them into coherent sets etc...
When I'm done, if you say your father would have wanted it that way and...
Ok now, I'm a big Everett Lilly nut, so I've been looking for a long time for an affordable blonde 1909-1911 Gibson F4 three pointer...
Now, I see this one on eBay:

Gary, I think I contacted you once, if you're ever interested in trading old live stuff, I'd love to do that!
Yes, right! Actually, there's video evidence of Curly playing a short turnaround solo on that song, which is a bit different, but Herschel sure had studied that style!
There you go, that's...
That's a real fine one, and it has Herschel Sizemore doing some fine Seckler-style breaks aswell!
And then...there's that 1941 radio transcript of Curly with Ramblin' Tommy Scott, just the two of them, where Curly does ALL the lead picking and also provides a rousing version of Woah Mule on the...
Yup, big fan here, both his voice and his mandolin playing.
I think the reason behind him not playing too many lead breaks is that the FMB wanted to make their sound as different to Monroe's as...
