Re: Playing rhythm with a stiff pick?

Like you I started on guitar. Mine was acoustic and I loved the flapping, slapping sound of thin, nylon picks. 0.60m were my fave. As I started to play heavier music and moved to bass I quickly...
  2. Re: Eastman MD304's fully attached fretboard design

Eastman has gone with a more "retro" or "traditional" design with their ovals. Also notice where the fretboard meets the body at the 12th fret instead of the 14th.

    Compared to the modern...

Re: Pick thickness - how to choose?

To be quiet honest I dont think it will be the pick that will help you 'learn faster cleaner picking of Celtic and bluegrass tunes, Bluegrass chopping, general comping, tremelo'. Its a bunch of...

  5. Re: Playing Mandolin with the Church Praise Team

I've played mandolin with Praise teams for many years... not as many as Mr. Flynn, I'm impressed John!

    Re: your mandolin ownership history

Gave the Fender to a Friend, still have The Loar and The Weber, and added my Red Valley EM (mahogany) in February 2018.

    Good times!
  7. Re: Electric Mandolin/Tenor Guitar double neck- not Jimmy Page's!

Just a guess.... I see 4 knobs on the body. I bet its a volume/tone knob per instrument. So you would turn one all the way down while playing the other.
  8. Re: What Sensation Should You Feel for "The One?"

Maybe the Alvarez is your "one"...? I dont know about that. But I do know that when you find it, the Alvarez will be the last thing on your mind.

For me my "one" found me. I won a contest here....

Re: Mandolin with Best Bluegrass Chop

I never really cared for my chops on my Weber. Then I played a friends Collins at a jam, and wouldn't you know it!!! I didn't like the sound of my chops on it either! So I practiced and practiced...

    Re: Your first great mandolin

My Parents gave me my first mandolin, a ply wood Fender FM100 or something when I was 16. I had a few others that I traded or sold, nothing "real nice" though...

Then I simply signed up for The...

I've only played a very small few Ellis mandolins, they were all excellent!
  20. Re: D'Addario's new Chris Thile signature mandolin pick

Mine is flat as I'm sure it should be. However, I've heard that Casein over time when warm molds and shapes. I'm guessing it was stored improperly???

  23. Re: Bernie in Newfoundland (no mando content)

Although Sanders is a political figure I wouldn't think of this fad as political humor. It's just silliness.

    Funny picture, thanks for sharing!
