    Re: Tuner Buttons Buzzing

Pops1, you are the man! I don't think I'd have the skill levels to alter a set of tuners like you. There's another vote for super glue from Jim Simpson, so that's what I'll try. Tracking down buzzes...

    Re: Tuner Buttons Buzzing

Thanks for all the replies. I have to admit, this is the second set of Stew Mac Golden Age replacements I've bought where the tuner buttons buzz. Because of that, I really should return them and...

    Tuner Buttons Buzzing

I found lots of threads about fixing buzzes, but I didn't see this particular problem.

I swapped out old tuners on a vintage mandolin for some Stewart MacDonald Golden Age replacements. It all...
  4. Re: Correct nut files for different string gauges

    Thanks for the reply Mike!
  5. Correct nut files for different string gauges

I want to change the string spacing on a tenor banjo so my plan is to fill the existing nut slots with bone power and super glue then re-file the slots to where I want them. I've done this procedure...

    Re: Irish Tenor Banjo Recordings

Great thread with fantastic players listed! But I have to chime in with a few more players of note that I really like that I didn't see. Check them out
    and enjoy:

    Alan Reid...
  8. Re: Tenor Banjo String Gauge (CGDA v GDAE octave)

    Thanks for the detailed reply!
  9. Re: Tenor Banjo String Gauge (CGDA v GDAE octave)

David I'm curious, do find that scale length makes a big difference with all those tunings and gauges?
  10. Re: Tenor Banjo String Gauge (CGDA v GDAE octave)

It sounds like it also probably has 17 frets? I've always had a difficult time tuning 20" scales to my satisfaction using GDAE tuning. The G strings always seem a little floppy to me and the...

    Re: Vitti 'Na Crozza

I'm so glad to see people enjoying Vitti 'Na Crozza! At 14:39 is my friend Kathy Sherak singing a shortened version of the song. Besides being a great mandolin player with the Aurora Mandolin...

Re: Ever just love the sound of your mandolin?

Yes, and I went through about 10 of them before I found one I loved. No more MAS! How many did you go through?

Re: Truss Rods vs Carbon Fiber?

I owned several truss rod mandolins over the years and never had problems with any of them.

Several years ago, against my better judgement, I bought a mandolin with CF. It was so pretty and the...

    Re: Types of Mandolin Collections

It all depends on what genre I'm currently interested in. I've always been a Monroe fan, so I got the best F5 copy I could find. When I got interested in Italian music, I bought the best sounding...

Re: Gilchrist and Heiden - Big Indian Blues

It's hard for me to hear the differences! They both sound great. A lot of how well an instrument sounds is the player, of course. Maybe that's what I'm hearing. Well done.

    Re: Reading music

Two books that helped me over the hurdle of becoming a reader in my late 50s: Standard Notation for the Tab Addicted Mandolinist by Debora Chen, and Basic Rhythmic Training by Robert Starer. I was...

Re: Could a broken truss rod cause a buzz?

These are all great suggestions and will follow up. The two piece back had to be re-glued at some point, so checking all the seams is a good idea.
  21. Re: Where have all the Irish bouzouki / cittern players gone to?

This caught my eye. I just got interested in Irish bouzouki and will now check out the FB page!

Could a broken truss rod cause a buzz?

I have 1924 A2Z that I love, but it does have an intermittent, yet persistent buzz. I've tightened every nut and bolt, replaced (professionally) the tuners and have tried to track down the source...

Re: Practicing the swing feel for Irish music

I'm not sure if it's ok to refer to another music discussion website, but The Session site for Irish music has several interesting threads about swing in Irish traditional music that may be helpful....
  25. Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

I don't think I've seen High Lonesome listed yet. Also, Spout Wings and Fly about Tommy Jarrell.
