Definitely European. Seems to have a carved top so I’m not particularly bothered about the strange light. It’s not a mandolin though - ths scale length is somewhere just short of 20 inches.

Import duty and VAT is becoming something of an urban myth in the UK. Don’t forget that you’re also liable to pay VAT on the shipping costs.
