Hello All,
I was reunited with a high school friend I hadn't spoken with in 30 years. I learned he has created www.tuneburg.com in the hopes of creating a place where musicians can network with...
Hi all,
I am still out here someplace. I've just had some complications from the spinal cord injury which are causing my arms and hands to be quite numb. I had an MRI done last week (finally got...
I couldn't resist adding one more........(here goes)
Why did you stop playing?
I got to hear my first real Gibsons this weekend. One was an antique and one was modern.
Given what genuine Gibsons cost, I'm so excited to know that I'll never be a good enough mando player to...
I'll be the first to admit it, I live in a humid place. Central Arkansas and humidity go hand in hand.
I have Jazzmando.com strings on my Shawnee Creek, which I put on in early summer. They still...
I don't know much about Italy except my grandparents on my mother's side were from Sicily. It's an incredible culture so it must be an incredible country.
Enjoy and come back and tell us lots of...
I'm playing every other day for 20-30 minutes. I have the problem that the upper joint in both thumbs is visibly swollen, especially the left.
Could mandolin playing be causing this? Is it just...
I'd hate to see the police report if the house had been robbed with all those mandos in it....You had how many mandolins in the house...?:))

No, I haven't given up yet.
I alternate between my mandolin and my octave mandolin. I've been slowly working my way through Greg Horne's Beginning Mandolin book. I play until my fingertips hurt on...
All of you have heard me sing this song before. Get a Shawnee Creek for $650.

I was making spaghetti last night and, as I usually do, I accidentally dropped some of the cooked noodles onto the counter from the serving spoon as I was serving the plates. One of them formed a...
I've discovered if you're learning an instrument that is really meant for you, practicing isn't work. If you're learning an instrument that isn't right for you, having to play it is a chore (like...
Go In Galoshes
Carolyn (yes, I'm still out here, just been busy)
I have one and I love it. It has incredible sound to it and is so easy to play.
Send me a private message if you want to know anything specific.

The debate about picks reminds me of the quest audiophiles go through for the ultimate speakers. That's something that gets into some bucks.
I'm guessing I have to be more particular about picks...
My husband and I have this dilemma constantly with stereo equipment.
We recently bought a high-end tube amp and speakers, that have come highly recommended. Fortunately, we didn't pay full price...
My husband and I just bought an Oppo BDP-83 universal player, which plays SACD, among other formats (blu-ray video). I highly recommend it.
Does anybody know of any mandolin CDs out on SACD?
...
My new SACD, Blue Oyster Cult Agents of Fortune.

Try Rebab or Koto.
I have to agree with Randolph's answer. We did this with a Maine Coon Cat we have. We named his sibling and began calling this cat "Max's Brother" for lack of anything else to...
Thanks folks for the reference to the dulcimer website and the idea about bicycle handlebar tape. I thought of using the foam that's used for people with dexterity problems after stroke, SCI, etc....
Yes, I'm still around. Just been busy.
I bought a nice hammered dulcimer about ten years ago. Never could learn to play the darn thing. Just didn't understand how it all worked, even though I took...
Is there such a thing as "an inexpensive hobby?" I sure haven't found one.

Michael Garrison. Some of the best electronic instrumentals I've ever heard. One of the pioneers of that field of music. I never get tired of him. Also Robin Bullock.

Out of curiosity--
Are the different tunings pretty much standard, and if so--
Do you keep each different mandolin in a different tuning to avoid having to retune one instrument?
Carolyn
I'd never heard the expression "noodling around" until I started playing mandolin. I found the definition on the slang dictionary online. It wasn't in my Oxford Unabridged.
I know what it means....
