    Hello All,

I was reunited with a high school friend I hadn't spoken with in 30 years. I learned he has created www.tuneburg.com in the hopes of creating a place where musicians can network with...

  4. Sometimes Life Can Be Unusually Comforting...

I got to hear my first real Gibsons this weekend. One was an antique and one was modern.

Given what genuine Gibsons cost, I'm so excited to know that I'll never be a good enough mando player to...

    Keeping Your Mandolin(s) In Tune?

I'll be the first to admit it, I live in a humid place. Central Arkansas and humidity go hand in hand.

I have Jazzmando.com strings on my Shawnee Creek, which I put on in early summer. They still...

I don't know much about Italy except my grandparents on my mother's side were from Sicily. It's an incredible culture so it must be an incredible country.

Enjoy and come back and tell us lots of...

  9. A Progress Report-Learning The Mando with a Spinal Cord Injury

No, I haven't given up yet.

I alternate between my mandolin and my octave mandolin. I've been slowly working my way through Greg Horne's Beginning Mandolin book. I play until my fingertips hurt on...

  11. Is The Universe Trying To Tell Me To Get Back to Practicing?

I was making spaghetti last night and, as I usually do, I accidentally dropped some of the cooked noodles onto the counter from the serving spoon as I was serving the plates. One of them formed a...

    Comment on practicing

I've discovered if you're learning an instrument that is really meant for you, practicing isn't work. If you're learning an instrument that isn't right for you, having to play it is a chore (like...

    Re: Outrageous Price of Picks

The debate about picks reminds me of the quest audiophiles go through for the ultimate speakers. That's something that gets into some bucks.

I'm guessing I have to be more particular about picks...

Re: Best Name For A String Musician's Dog

    Try Rebab or Koto.

  24. Question For Those of You With Multiple Mandos

    Out of curiosity--

Are the different tunings pretty much standard, and if so--

Do you keep each different mandolin in a different tuning to avoid having to retune one instrument?

    Origin of "Noodling Around"

I'd never heard the expression "noodling around" until I started playing mandolin. I found the definition on the slang dictionary online. It wasn't in my Oxford Unabridged.
