That was going to be my suggestion. Take a bit of the money and road trip with it to play a lot of mandolins.
I've used both bourbon and leather on my mando and my playing is still stinky.
Maybe I'm not understanding.
Does it say he's using an alternate tuning? Looks/sounds like it, to me
Sounds like you like Weber

In that price range, there's so much goodness. You should be able to...
I'll add in the portability of accessories. Even my LoudBox amps. There's no gig I can't carry all my stuff in one trip. I watch my bandmates suffer (to me, needlessly) carrying big honkin amps that...
I have successfully done this. I just did a good job peeling the stickers and then spray adhesive worked fine.
I can vouch for the RedEye. I currently use a Baggs Venue and play solos in an outlaw country band. Boost is definitely used and appreciated.
Just search Mandolin Grommets on eBay. They're like 2 or 3 sets for $6
Nailed it!
Dillards also come to mind
I do and the ProPlec recently found it's way back onboard, after a Wegen being primary for over a year. I had some new strings with some brightness that needed to be tamed.
Can't be out of line. I received my two-point two years ago this coming June and it continues to be the most amazing instrument I know of. Blessed and thankful to play it every day.
I think it's a "2nd highest string" thing. Not only are my mandolin A strings always the culprit, on my guitars it's always the B string
My upgrade came when I found myself fighting for tone every time I played. I needed something that would full reveal me as the obstacle to good sound and let me know that any deficiencies I heard...
Can I be the only one whose instrument goes sharp no matter what?
Instrument gets cold - Sharp
Instrument is in a warm room - Sharp again
I'm in one band that pays a half-step down, so I have to...
My regular gigging band is an Outlaw Country bit. We do all the embroidered shirts and jackets. Pearl snaps on most shirts, belt buckles, western boots. I must naturally hold my mando off to the...
Fair enough. Is he banking that the person who wants a lefty will take a great deal on two?
Probably, as said before, whatever were the quickest ones to stage, transport.
My take is that he's as smart as a mandolin thief can get. Choosing the expensive models sticks him with rare, easily singled out, hard to move items. Anyone willing to shell out for the better...
Don't forget there's also this one, if you want to see them play something other than Mandolin (but yes, eventually mandolin)

Off topic-ish.
If you're on Insta, find Sierra's reel from last night. Sierra, Thile and Critter doing the Chipmonk's Christmas Song.
Such fire
I hear you. I started to develop a similar use of this technique in my current outlaw country band. The rest of the band are guitarists who don't really play with mandolin inclusivity in mind. I had...
This is two things. First, Sierra has a variety of mics and mic placements. Go over her live videos and you can see she is switching up pickups in different situations. The other, however, is the...
Red-Eye absolutely has an instrument out. I used to run it between my mando and a Loudbox
